In the incident, Police Lieutenant Colonel Theerapong used his service firearm to shoot his mother-in-law and wife in front of his wife's fitness center in Nang Rong Subdistrict, Nang Rong District, Buriram Province. The wife died at the scene and the mother-in-law was critically injured. On 18 June 2026, surveillance footage from inside the fitness center showed that after four gunshots were fired, the trainer and several customers were shocked and ran to safety. Lieutenant Colonel Theerapong entered the fitness room and attempted to shoot another trainer but failed, then fled. The trainer and a building contractor on the second floor chased and restrained Theerapong, forcing him to the ground.
Currently, Lieutenant Colonel Theerapong is unable to give a statement to investigators. Doctors have placed him on a ventilator due to multiple injuries sustained on his body.
Police Colonel Jetsarit Paengsrisarn, Deputy Commander of Buriram Provincial Police, said the investigation is ongoing to determine the true motive behind Lieutenant Colonel Theerapong's actions. Preliminary assumptions point to family problems as the cause. Authorities are awaiting the suspect’s statement. Initial charges filed against Theerapong include attempted murder, intentional homicide, and violations under the Firearms Act.
