The Department of Special Investigation (DSI) joined forces with the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to raid four locations in Sakon Nakhon and Nonthaburi provinces, seizing the deadly "Baschi" dietary supplement, which was illegally mixed with sibutramine and caused a woman's death. The product lacked FDA registration and had previously been warned as illegal.
On 23 Jun 2026 GMT+7, Pol. Lt. Gen. Natsak Chawanasai, Commissioner of the Central Investigation Bureau, ordered Pol. Maj. Gen. Kongkrit Lertsittikul, Commander of the DSI, and Pol. Col. Weerapong Klaithong, Chief of Division 4, to coordinate with Pharmacist Suphattra Boonserm, Secretary of the FDA, and Dr. Pornpat Phunakam, Deputy Public Health Officer of Sakon Nakhon, to launch an operation targeting illegal weight loss supplement networks. They raided four sites in Sakon Nakhon and Nonthaburi, seizing a total of 18 containers of Baschi weight loss supplements.
This search was prompted by reports that a consumer died after taking Baschi weight loss supplements purchased from an online store named “Baschi Baschi Baschi” on a major online platform. Upon inspection, the product lacked FDA registration and had previously been issued a warning as an illegal product because it was found to be illicitly mixed with "sibutramine," a Category 1 controlled substance.
Subsequently, police from Division 4 of the DSI investigated and expanded their search to four locations: First, a residence in Phang Khon District, Sakon Nakhon, listed as the sender’s address on packages sent to volunteers or the deceased; second, a private delivery warehouse in Phanna Nikhom District, Sakon Nakhon, where returned parcels addressed to the same location were found to contain 15 containers of Baschi supplements hidden inside.
Third, a residence in Phang Khon District linked to the online store’s delivery system, and fourth, a residence in Bang Kruai District, Nonthaburi, where three more problematic containers were found. In total, 18 containers were seized and handed over to investigators from Division 4 of the DSI. Samples were sent to the Department of Medical Sciences under the Ministry of Public Health for official toxic substance analysis.
Following this, all involved individuals will be summoned and charged with commercial distribution of a Category 1 controlled substance, selling impure food, and mislabeling food products, with legal proceedings to follow.
