“Gun Jomphalang” accompanied a conscripted soldier to the cyber police to file a complaint about brutal hazing by senior soldiers, including the sharing of images on social media, with no indication of remorse for the violent acts.
At 10:30 a.m. on 23 June 2026, at the Technology Crime Suppression Division (TCSD) headquarters in Muang Thong Thani, Pak Kret district, Nonthaburi province, Mr. Kanthas Phongpaiboonwech, known as “Gun Jomphalang,” accompanied a conscript from the Navy stationed at a military camp in Sattahip district, Chonburi province (name withheld), who is the victim of brutal hazing by senior soldiers. They reported the case to investigators after discovering that inappropriate photos and videos of the incident had been shared in a Line group consisting of soldiers, where members reacted with amusement and no expression of remorse for the violent events.
Mr. Kanthas said he brought the victim to file a complaint with the Technology Crime Suppression Division police to determine which legal offenses the actions might constitute. Previously, the victim had reported the matter to local authorities but received no concrete resolution, only verbal assurances of action. This led to the decision to escalate the complaint and seek help from Mr. Kanthas.
Regarding concerns about whether the incident might recur if the victim is transferred to another unit, and about the victim’s current mental state, the victim said he remains determined to return to his duties as usual but admits he still harbors some worries about the situation.
Meanwhile, the Navy has stated it will conduct disciplinary investigations into all involved. Initially, the command has ordered the temporary transfer of the victim to another unit to prevent further violent incidents, as it is assessed that remaining in the original unit may lead to recurrence.
However, the victim urges the Navy to take the matter seriously and properly address the problem, emphasizing that such senior soldiers’ mistreatment of juniors should never happen again. Past complaints about senior soldiers’ behavior have rarely been effectively resolved.
Pol. Maj. Gen. Surapong Thaiprasert, Deputy Commander of the TCSD, said that the command at TCSD has expressed concern about the case reported by Mr. Kanthas Phongpaiboonwech and has received related evidence directly. Investigators have been ordered to quickly gather and review initial information to determine whether the case falls under TCSD’s jurisdiction and to verify the origin and legitimacy of the evidence provided by the victim, including whether the information is publicly accessible.
This initial phase requires collecting comprehensive details. If the investigation confirms the case is within TCSD’s authority, legal procedures will be promptly pursued, and progress will be communicated immediately to Mr. Kanthas’s team and the victim’s family.
If the investigation finds that the case is outside TCSD’s jurisdiction, the matter will be documented and forwarded to the appropriate authorities for lawful handling.
