Tragic Loss: Chef Ouan Rama 5 Dies in Car Accident After Falling Asleep at the Wheel

Mourning "Chef Ouan Rama 5" The famous chef who appeared on many TV programs has died after falling asleep while driving and crashing into a barrier.


At 03:10 on 24 June 2026, Police Lieutenant Colonel Wanichakorn Saksang, an investigator at Taling Chan Police Station, received a report of a car losing control and crashing into a concrete barrier, with an injured person trapped inside. The incident occurred at the end of Phutthamonthon Sai 1 Road intersecting with the railway service road in Chimphli, Taling Chan district, Bangkok. He went to investigate with the Bangkok Erawan Emergency Medical Service and volunteers from the Poh Teck Tung Foundation.

At the scene, a two-lane road was found with a white electric car registered in Bangkok crashed into a concrete railway barrier. The front of the car was heavily damaged, and the driver was trapped in the seat, severely injured and unconscious. Rescue volunteers quickly used tools to pry the car open and extracted the injured person. They performed CPR for over 30 minutes before transporting him to Thonburi Thawi Watthana Hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

The victim was identified as Somkiat Aranyathaworn, 44, nicknamed "Chef Ouan Rama 5," owner of Chef Ouan Pork Noodle Shop Nai Kala-Bang Yai. His body was pressed against the car console, causing internal injuries. Numerous vehicle registration books were found inside the car and collected as evidence.

Investigations revealed that Somkiat had been drinking with friends at a restaurant on Phutthamonthon Sai 1 Road. After the restaurant closed, he was driving home to Rama 5 Road in Nonthaburi. At the accident site, a T-junction prohibited right turns and required a left turn with a concrete barrier as a divider. It is believed Somkiat fell asleep at the wheel, drove straight ahead, and crashed violently into the barrier, resulting in his death.

Aside from owning a popular noodle shop, Somkiat was also a well-known chef who appeared on several TV shows. Additionally, he ran a business auctioning attractive vehicle license plates online, with many regular customers.
