At 23:30 on 27 June 2026, Police Lieutenant Manit Boonteng, an investigator at Phanom Sarakham Police Station, received a report of a shooting resulting in three deaths near Nong Nam Dam Village, Moo 9, Ko Khanun Subdistrict, Phanom Sarakham District, Chachoengsao Province. Upon receiving the report, he notified Police Major General Kriangkrai Boonsorn, Commander of Chachoengsao Provincial Police, and Police Colonel Somchai Yusawat, Deputy Commander, who promptly went to the scene with forensic teams from Chachoengsao, the duty doctor from Phanom Sarakham Hospital, and rescue units from Phanom.
The scene was an open area where three bodies were found lying in pools of blood scattered close to each other. Each victim had been shot 3-4 times. All were Myanmar migrant workers whose identities have not yet been confirmed. One injured person, identified as Mr. Pichai Daphantha, was severely wounded after being struck on the head with a bottle and stabbed in the left ribcage with a knife; he was taken earlier to Phanom Sarakham Hospital. At the scene, over 16 nine-millimeter shell casings were found. Police collected the firearms and knives used as evidence.
According to testimony from 24-year-old Theeraphat Nopthaow, the perpetrator and a member of the village security team, a gathering of foreign workers was taking place nearby, not far from the community. They were playing loud music and socializing in three large groups with about 20 participants, using vehicle high beams. He approached to warn them to lower the volume and questioned why the high beams were on. The workers then turned off the lights, and an argument broke out that escalated into a fight. The workers hit his friend with a bottle, so he fired a warning shot. The workers did not stop and attempted to fight again; he saw one wield a knife and stab his friend. The friend fell while retreating, but the workers continued stabbing him. Then nearly ten workers armed with knives charged at him, causing him to panic and shoot back in self-defense.
Recently, forensic officers arrived to collect evidence from the scene to support the ongoing investigation.
