The Metropolitan Police Bureau has deployed 9,589 officers to ensure security and handle all situations throughout the Bangkok governor election. Officers were instructed to carry out their duties with political neutrality and strictly enforce election laws.
On 28 June 2026, Pol. Lt. Gen. Siam Boonsom, Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police Bureau, along with Pol. Maj. Gen. Atthaphon Wongsiripreeda, Deputy Commissioner responsible for security, prepared personnel and security measures to facilitate and maintain order during the election.
The Metropolitan Police Bureau assigned a total of 9,589 personnel, including security teams stationed at polling stations, rapid response units assigned to polling stations and police stations, traffic facilitation teams, and investigative officers at election centers to cover all possible scenarios during the election.
Before election day, authorities received reports of seven election-related cases: two involving theft of campaign signs, four cases of damage to campaign signs, and one case involving the disappearance of documents. All cases are under legal investigation. Regarding the collapse of several electric poles in Lat Krabang district on 27 June 2026, which affected polling stations 12-14 in the parking area of Senakit Project on Liap Klong Ko Phai Road, causing power outages and temporary road closures, the Metropolitan Police Bureau coordinated with Bangkok Metropolitan Administration and the Electricity Authority to resolve the issue. Power was restored by 05:40 today (28 June 2026), and roads were reopened to allow voters to access polling stations normally.
Additionally, three police officers from Don Mueang, Bang Yi Khan, and Bang Phlat police stations were unable to perform their polling station duties due to illness and personal accidents. Backup personnel were assigned to replace them at all stations, ensuring operations continued without disruption. At 05:40 today, all polling station officers received ballot boxes and election equipment from district offices. By 18:00, all polling stations had opened for voters in an orderly manner.
Pol. Maj. Gen. Atthaphon stated that the Royal Thai Police and Metropolitan Police Bureau are fully prepared to ensure security, maintain order, and support efficient election management. He emphasized that all police officers must perform their duties with political neutrality and strictly enforce election laws to prevent and suppress any election-related offenses, ensuring the election proceeds smoothly, transparently, and with public confidence.
