Man Detained for Slashing Vietnamese Womans Arm Claims Mental Pressure and Hearing Voices, Denies Hatred of Overweight People Police Oppose Bail

A man who slashed a Vietnamese woman's arm, requiring 14 stitches, was detained. He claimed mental pressure and hearing voices instructing him, denying hatred of overweight people. Police opposed bail fearing repeated offenses.

Following the case where the Thung Maha Mek police chief led officers to arrest a man who used a cutter knife to injure a foreign woman, resulting in 14 stitches, and who confessed the act was due to mental pressure and dislike of overweight women, as previously reported,Read more: Homeless man arrested for slashing foreign woman's arm requiring 14 stitches, claims dislike of overweight women)

Most recently, this afternoon (29 Jun 2026), investigators at Thung Maha Mek Police Station detained the man known as “Film”, aged 30, and submitted him for detention at the Bangkok South Criminal Court after charging him with "assault causing bodily or mental injury". Investigators opposed bail due to concerns he might reoffend and for public safety.

Before sending him for detention, reporters tried to question “Film”, about his motive. The suspect spoke incoherently, stating he harbored no prejudice against overweight people. He said he acted because he was under mental pressure and heard many voices in his ear instructing him. He admitted never using drugs and claimed he had been assaulted by youths in the Sai Mai area, causing psychological stress.

When asked if he wished to apologize to the victim or comment on the incident's impact on Thailand's image, the suspect briefly replied, "I have nothing to say because I already spoke to the victim."

Police then escorted the suspect onto a prison transport vehicle to submit a detention request to the Bangkok South Criminal Court as per legal procedure. Investigators opposed bail, fearing he might commit similar offenses again and for the safety of the public.
