Phayao Police Chief Orders Full Investigation and Prosecution of Posts Distorting Facts and Defaming Over Thai Airways Flight Attendant Case

The Provincial Police Commander of Phayao has ordered a full investigation into the source of information dissemination, vowing to prosecute every individual without exception in cases involving posts that distort facts, demean Phayao residents, and link to drug-related issues connected to the "Thai Airways flight attendant" case arrested by Australian authorities, pointing out that such actions cause misunderstandings and damage the province's image.

Update on the case: A 26-year-old female Thai Airways flight attendant was arrested by Australian authorities at Melbourne Airport after being found carrying a quantity of drugs into the country. There is no evidence indicating she is involved in drug trafficking networks, but authorities remain cautious, as previously reported.

Regarding this matter, on 2 July 2026, reporters reported that yesterday, Police Major General Pongsawat Chaibaan, Provincial Police Commander of Phayao, urgently convened a meeting including deputy commanders, police station chiefs, investigation supervisors, and legal officers to discuss and follow up on the approach to handling posts on social media that distort facts, demean Phayao residents, and refer to drug issues, causing public criticism and harming the province's reputation.

The case involves a woman from Phayao working as a flight attendant who was arrested by Australian authorities on drug charges. This incident has attracted widespread attention in the media and online communities. Following the event, certain social media pages and users linked the case to Phayao province, posting messages that demeaned its residents and referenced individuals or high-ranking officials in the province. These posts often contained unverified or inaccurate information, leading to misunderstandings and damaging the province's reputation.

Police Major General Pongsawat Chaibaan, Provincial Police Commander of Phayao, has ordered an urgent investigation into the origins of the disseminated information, tracking page administrators and Facebook pages spreading such content, and collecting both digital evidence and related testimonies to prosecute all involved parties under the law without exception.

Currently, police are examining multiple Facebook pages that have posted messages implicating Phayao province, as well as individuals and local officials, which may constitute distortion of facts or cause harm. Investigators are intensively gathering evidence and digital data. Once sufficient proof is collected, investigators will issue summonses for those involved to acknowledge charges according to legal procedures.

Authorities request public cooperation to exercise judgment when receiving and sharing information, to verify facts before dissemination, in order to prevent harm to individuals and the province, as well as to avoid actions that might violate the law.
