Police Arrest Thai-Lao Couple Sending Package to Meena, Thai Flight Attendant, for Heroin Smuggling Intense Questioning Underway

Police arrested a Thai husband and his Laotian wife for sending a package to “Meena,” a female flight attendant, concealing heroin, and are conducting intensive questioning.

This case stems from the arrest of Ms. Meena, a Thai flight attendant, by Australian police at Melbourne Airport for smuggling about one kilogram of heroin hidden in her luggage. Police and related agencies expanded their investigation to identify the sender of the package.

At 13:00 on 2 July 2026, officers from the Office of the Narcotics Control Board (ONCB), along with investigative teams from Loei Provincial Police, Chiang Khan Police Station, Erawan Police Station, and Region 4 Police, mobilized to track down the individual who sent the package to Ms. Meena.

Investigators from Chiang Khan Police Station traced the case to a residence in That Subdistrict, Chiang Khan District, Loei Province, after learning that Mr. Arthit, 43, and Mrs. Tatsapon, 42, both lived in Village 5, Pak Tom Subdistrict, Chiang Khan District, Loei Province. They were not found there and were reported to be working as rubber tappers in Erawan District. Coordination with ONCB and Loei Provincial Police revealed that Mr. Arthit was working on the roof of Wat Tham Pha Mak Ho in Si Songkhram Subdistrict, Wang Saphung District, Loei Province. He was taken in for questioning at Erawan Police Station, and the case was reported to Police Major General Weeradej Lekhaworakul, Commander of Loei Provincial Police.

Initial questioning revealed that Mr. Arthit admitted to delivering packages six times to Bangkok: three times via a parcel service in Chiang Khan District, twice at his home in That Subdistrict, Chiang Khan District, and once in Erawan District. He was paid 8,000 baht per delivery by a Laotian individual, with the last delivery on 28 June 2026.

Authorities later detained Mrs. Tatsapon, 42, a Laotian national and Arthit's wife, who was hiding in a rubber plantation at Pha Nang–Pha Koeng area, Pha In Plaeng Subdistrict, Erawan District. She arrived in a black Mitsubishi Triton pickup truck. She was brought in for questioning at Erawan Police Station, where she initially denied any involvement or knowledge of the case.
