Highway Police Arrest Man Driving Pickup with Fake Red Plate Number 499, Claims Misunderstanding

The Central Investigation Bureau (CIB), through the highway police, arrested a 31-year-old man driving a pickup truck with a fake red license plate number 499. He claimed it was a misunderstanding and that he was unaware of the wrongdoing. His younger brother, seeing him buy a new car, arranged the K-9999 plate for him.

On 5 July 2026, the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB), through the Highway Police Division, led by Police Colonel Intharat Panya, Superintendent of Division 7, ordered officers from Patrol Unit 5, Division 7, including Lieutenant Colonel Banhan Thongkliang, Deputy Superintendent; Lieutenant Kitkan Chayakarn, Deputy Superintendent (Operations); Lieutenant Arunsuk Thapcharoenpong, Deputy Superintendent (Operations); and Sergeant Major Anek Temphrom, Squad Leader, to conduct an operation.

They jointly arrested Mr. Rohim, 31, on charges of "forging and using forged government documents."
The evidence included a personal pickup truck, an Isuzu brand, gray color, with a red plate K-9999 Bangkok; and two red license plates with the same number.

The arrest occurred when officers on duty in their jurisdiction found Mr. Rohim with the Isuzu gray pickup truck bearing the red plate K-9999 Bangkok, parked with the engine running on the roadside in front of a grocery store. The arresting officers questioned people standing near the store, who confirmed the vehicle belonged to Mr. Rohim, who had traveled from Mueang District, Yala Province, and stopped there. The situation was suspicious.

The officers identified themselves and inspected the vehicle. They found the license plates had irregularities inconsistent with official Department of Land Transport plates—missing key security marks. Preliminary checks showed the vehicle's information did not match the red plate number, and there was no official red plate book as required. The two plates (front and back) were believed to be forged and were seized as evidence.

The officers informed the suspect that he was being charged with "forging and using forged government documents" and explained his legal rights, which he understood. He was taken to Lam Mai Police Station in Lam Mai Subdistrict, Mueang District, Yala Province, to record the arrest and later transferred with the evidence to the investigation officer there for legal proceedings.

During initial questioning, Mr. Rohim admitted he purchased the vehicle new from a showroom in Mueang District, Narathiwat Province, but it had no license plate yet. Out of concern, his younger brother obtained the red plate K-9999 Bangkok to put on temporarily to avoid fines from police before receiving the official plate. He was then arrested by highway police on 3 July 2026.
