ONCB Visits Surat Thani to Review Drug Prevention Efforts Focusing on Immunity Building and Support for Offenders

The Office of the Narcotics Control Board (ONCB) visited Surat Thani to receive reports on drug prevention and resolution efforts in the area, focusing on immunity building from early childhood and utilizing community mechanisms for treatment and assistance of those misled by drugs.

At 09:00 on 6 Jul 2026, Ms. Areepak Ngenbamrung, Deputy Secretary-General of the ONCB, along with her team, visited Surat Thani province to carry out operations and receive reports on drug prevention and resolution efforts, emphasizing early childhood immunity building and the use of strong community mechanisms for treatment and support of those misled.

Ms. Areepak said this visit reflects the proactive work process of the ONCB office, closely cooperating with the education sector and the public from early childhood drug prevention through brain skill development to breaking the drug cycle and reintegrating good people into society through community processes.

ONCB executives visited Surat Thani Kindergarten to observe the development of Executive Functions (EF) skills, a key school effort in building immunity for students.

In the afternoon, the executives traveled to the Mother of the Land Fund at Ban Thon Ya Plong, Village No. 6, Mueang district, Surat Thani, to follow up on community-level drug prevention and resolution efforts. Village leaders, community members, local authorities, and fund members welcomed the delegation.

Mrs. Chulee Thiamprateep, Chairperson of the Mother of the Land Fund, presented the fund's successful operations, including an interesting case study of a vulnerable family that the community has embraced and supported to prevent them from becoming victims of the drug cycle.

There was also a demonstration of an integrated checkpoint setup to ensure community safety, identify drug users for treatment processes, and an exhibition of local products that generate income and sustainable supplementary occupations for residents.

The ONCB Deputy Secretary-General concluded that sustainable drug problems cannot be solved by suppression alone; it must start with building strong brain skills in children and having communities that serve as safety nets, offering opportunities and jointly monitoring and caring, as exemplified by the models of Surat Thani Kindergarten and Ban Thon Ya Plong community today.
