The Royal Thai Police have combined K9 police dog units with the Office of the Narcotics Control Board (ONCB) and Airports of Thailand (AOT) to launch a stringent baggage scanning operation at Suvarnabhumi Airport to intercept transnational drug trafficking networks.
Following the policy of Police General Kittirat Panpech, Commissioner of the Royal Thai Police, and Police General Samran Nualma, Deputy Commissioner and Director of the Royal Thai Police Narcotics Suppression Center, the plan was presented to the Narcotics Control Board to enhance strict measures and deploy K9 police dogs nationwide at airports to inspect for illegal items. This aims to block the smuggling of drugs into and out of the kingdom, elevating measures to prevent and dismantle transnational drug trafficking via air transport.
On 7 July 2026 at 11:00 a.m., Police Major General Worawit Yanjinda, Commander of the Patrol and Special Operations Division, along with Police Colonel Sukrit Mungkalsawat, Commander of the Police Dog Unit, and other police officers led a team with two K9 police dogs and their handlers. They integrated forces with Airports of Thailand (AOT) and the ONCB to conduct thorough drug inspections by scanning passenger and airport staff luggage at Suvarnabhumi Airport.
The Royal Thai Police will continue to support ongoing missions to inspect baggage for drugs and illegal items at airports to enhance the effectiveness of preventing, suppressing, and dismantling international drug trafficking networks with tangible results. Citizens who have information about drug offenses can report it anytime via the hotlines 191 or Police Hotline 1599.
