ONCB Leads Media Visit to Koh Samui Prison to Study Community Rehabilitation Process and Tour Kumlungjai Project to Sustainably Reintegrate Good Citizens

The Office of the Narcotics Control Board (ONCB) led a media delegation to Koh Samui Prison to study the community rehabilitation process and toured the “Kumlungjai” project, aiming for sustainable reintegration of good citizens into society.

At 09:30 on 8 July 2026, Mr. Chotiphan Chunphet, Director of the Office of Narcotics Control Board Region 8 (ONCB Region 8), led a media delegation to study rehabilitation work for drug offenders at Koh Samui Prison. This visit aimed to enhance understanding of treatment processes and preparation for reintegration into society. The group was welcomed by Mr. Ratchawin Hiranratwiphu, Commander of Koh Samui District Prison, along with Mr. Komon Nurak, Senior Chaplain, who provided an overview briefing on the prison’s operations.

During this visit, the media delegation studied the comprehensive rehabilitation process for inmates, which included:

1. Studying the community rehabilitation process at Sangha Nusorn Pavilion: observing behavioral and mindset changes in inmates through psychological measures and group living that encourages mutual support.

2. Observing vocational training at the male inmate detention area: monitoring efforts to promote and develop various labor skills to create future career opportunities.

3. Touring female inmate vocational training under the “Kumlungjai” project: the group visited the female detention area where activities under Her Royal Highness Princess Bajrakitiyabha’s initiative focus on promoting morality, ethics, and mental development alongside vocational training aligned with Koh Samui’s labor market, such as batik fabric making, cooking, and painting. This enables female inmates to use their time productively, earn income, and acquire skills to support themselves and start a valuable new life after release.

Additionally, the media delegation had the opportunity to conduct special interviews with inmates to share real experiences about their adjustment and opportunities received through rehabilitation, as well as their hopes for a normal return to family and society in the future.
