Relatives of ‘Por Thip’ Case Suspect Fear Denial of Bail Despite Prepared Collateral Police to Submit Detention Request

Relatives of a suspect in the 'Por Thip' case opened up, expressing worry and sympathy for their uncle, who usually works as a security guard and supplements his income as a motorcycle taxi driver. They suspect he was tricked into signing documents in exchange for money. They admitted feeling stressed and anxious and have prepared collateral to seek bail tomorrow.

In the case involving Police General Samran Nuamma, Deputy Commissioner of the Royal Thai Police, and Police Lieutenant General Nopasit Poolsawat, Commander attached to the Office of the Commissioner, who collaborated with officials from the Department of Provincial Administration (DOPA), N.I.C.E., the Office of the Public Sector Anti-Corruption Commission (PACC), the Anti-Money Laundering Office, and the Metropolitan Police Bureau's investigation unit to launch the operation 'Dragon Scale Removal' targeting a Thai 'Por Thip' network involved in false birth registrations for foreigners. The court issued 35 arrest warrants, with 27 suspects arrested and detained at the Central Criminal Court for Corruption and Misconduct without bail, and all sent to prison. Yesterday afternoon (11 July), four more suspects were arrested: Chen Runxin, Xiao Chun Ma, along with Chatchawan Srisamutnak and But Boonbannlu, aged 60.

At 12:00 p.m. on 12 July 2026 at Bang Yi Ruea Police Station, Ms. Fa, niece of But Boonbannlu, one of the suspects in the 'Por Thip' case, brought boxed meals and drinks to visit him. She briefly told reporters she was worried and felt sorry for her uncle, believing he was unlikely involved in the network. It is possible that his employer tricked him into signing child certification documents. Normally, her uncle works as a security guard at a company and also runs a motorcycle taxi service as a side job, so he does not come home often. She is unaware whether he was previously involved with any Chinese individuals and does not dare ask him to avoid causing him more stress.

Ms. Fa admitted that her family is currently stressed and worried about the possibility of being denied bail. Although they have prepared some collateral, they still need to consult further to determine how much money the court will require for bail. If the amount is too high, the family will have to seek loans.

Later, a group of relatives of suspect Chatchawan visited but declined to give interviews to the media. They only briefly stated that their relative was not involved in the process, asked for a clear distinction not to generalize with the Chinese group, and believed it is highly likely their relative was tricked into signing child certification documents.

Reports indicate that no additional suspects have been arrested so far. The four suspects will be brought to the Central Criminal Court for Corruption and Misconduct for detention extension, with bail opposed as with the initial group, on the morning of 13 July.
