Central Investigation Police Chief Orders Transfer of Highway Inspector Over Arrest of Southern Border Volunteer Ranger with Firearm

"The Chief of the Central Investigation Police Bureau" , has ordered the transfer , of a "highway inspector" , to assist at the Central Investigation Bureau over the firearm arrest case , involving a "Southern Border Volunteer Ranger" , which sparked widespread criticism on social media ,


On 15 July 2026, it was reported that Pol. Lt. Gen. Nattasak Chaowanasai, Chief of the Central Investigation Police Bureau (CIB), signed an order regarding police officers assisting at the CIB, stating that ,

a news image circulated on social media showed officers from Highway Police Station 2, Division 7, Highway Police Bureau, arresting a Southern Border Volunteer Ranger along with seized ammunition ,

accused of carrying a firearm into a city, village, or public area without permission and without urgent or justified reasons on 10 July 2026 at about 9:30 p.m., which led to widespread criticism of the highway police's conduct. The Highway Police Bureau is currently investigating the incident ,

to ensure the investigation proceeds smoothly and fairly for all parties, under the authority of Section 66 of the National Police Act, B.E. 2565 (2022), and the National Police Office's regulations on assigning police officers to assist within the National Police Office, B.E. 2566 (2023) ,

therefore, Pol. Lt. Col. Wichai Mokharat, Inspector of Highway Police Station 2, Division 7, Highway Police Bureau, is assigned to assist at the Central Investigation Police Bureau to perform duties at the CIB Operations Center, effective immediately, removed from his original post as of 14 July 2026.
