A brazen, ruthless gunman on a motorcycle shot a well-known technical college student in the back of the head, killing him at the red light intersection near Wat Sutthapochon at the entrance to Chalong Krung Soi 8, while the victim was riding as a passenger with a friend stopped at the traffic signal. The friend driving fled into nearby bushes and narrowly escaped. Police are rushing to track down the suspect.
At 21:55 on 15 July 2026, Police Lieutenant Colonel Watcharapong Jaisawang, Deputy Investigator of Chalong Krung Police Station, received a report of a fatal shooting at the traffic light intersection near Wat Sutthapochon, Chalong Krung Soi 8, Lam Pla Thio subdistrict, Lat Krabang district, Bangkok. He promptly arrived at the scene with Police Colonel Thanadon Ngamyen, Chief of Chalong Krung Police Station, forensic officers, a forensic doctor from the Police Hospital, and volunteers from the Poh Teck Tung Foundation.
At the scene on the road lay the body of Natthaphong Charoendong, 22, a second-year electrical technician student at Minburi Polytechnic College in Khlong Sam Wa. The body was face down, wearing a blue short-sleeved T-shirt of the institution, black long pants, and red high-top sneakers. He had been shot with an unknown caliber firearm in the back of the head, the bullet exiting through his mouth. His companion survived.
During questioning, a friend who survived, called Ek (a pseudonym), said they had been riding a blue Honda PCX 150 motorcycle, license plate 2 KHO 5502 Bangkok, returning home after school. He was driving with the deceased riding as a passenger. When they stopped at the traffic light, suddenly two motorcycles approached closely, three people in total, riding a Honda Wave 125 i and a Honda Wave 110 i. The two on the Wave 125 i included one who drew a firearm and fired at them. Ek was terrified, abandoned the motorcycle, and fled into the roadside grass. After the gunmen left, he returned to find his friend shot and immediately called the police.
Officials had volunteers from the Poh Teck Tung Foundation transport the body to the Police Hospital for autopsy. Ek was taken for further questioning at Chalong Krung Police Station to determine the motive. Police are checking CCTV footage around the scene and nearby areas to trace the suspects’ escape route and expedite their arrest to bring them to justice.
