A woman hired to carry goods to Japan became suspicious because the tamarind paste jars were unusually heavy. Upon opening them, she was shocked to find over 2 kilograms of ice methamphetamine. She reported this to the police, who are now investigating and working to identify the person who hired her to prosecute under the law.
On 16 July 2026, a reporter reported that at 14:00 on 13 July 2026, Police Lieutenant Colonel Mangkon Panthrasri, investigator at Bang Yi Khan police station, received a report from Ms. Patchranan Boromkasemsuk, 43, who works as a courier transporting goods between Thailand and Japan. She charges 450 baht per kilogram. On 3 July, while in Prachuap Khiri Khan province, she was contacted via a Facebook account named “Chayamin Pai” who hired her to send goods from Thailand to Japan.
On 4 July, the Facebook user hired a delivery rider to bring the goods packed in a cardboard box to a condominium in Pinklao, on Borommaratchachonnani Road, Arun Amarin subdistrict, Bangkok Noi district, Bangkok. On 6 July, she returned to the condo to prepare for her trip to Japan.
On 7 July, she collected the goods for inspection and to pack them into her luggage for shipment to Japan. Upon opening the cardboard box, she found six jars of tamarind paste weighing 1,500 grams each, along with instant noodles, candies, jelly, dried coconut, snacks, seasonings, peanut butter, and herbal inhalers—12 items in total weighing about 10 kilograms.
She examined the tamarind paste jars and noticed they were unusually heavy. Opening one, she found tamarind paste on top but discovered an abnormal solid white object inside a clear plastic bag. She repacked the jars as they were, placed them back in the cardboard box with the other items, and left the box under the condo. She then traveled to Japan.
She returned to Thailand on 11 July and on 13 July reported the suspicious items to the police for inspection.
Police Lieutenant Colonel Mangkon, along with Lieutenant Colonel Supachai Paengmuang, investigator, and the Bang Yi Khan police investigative team, went to the condo scene to inspect the goods. They found a 40x60 cm cardboard box containing plastic jars of 1,500 grams each. The first jar contained tamarind paste and approximately 331.3 grams of methamphetamine (ice). The second jar had tamarind paste and about 341.1 grams of methamphetamine.
The third jar contained tamarind paste and about 354.5 grams of methamphetamine; the fourth jar had tamarind paste and about 413.1 grams; the fifth jar contained tamarind paste and about 318.4 grams; the sixth jar had tamarind paste and about 300.6 grams. The total weight of the six jars of methamphetamine was approximately 2.059 kilograms. All items tested positive for methamphetamine using drug test kits.
All evidence was sent to the forensic department for fingerprint analysis. Authorities will expand their investigation to trace the origin of the narcotics and bring the owner to justice for possessing and selling a Category 1 narcotic (methamphetamine or ice) for commercial purposes, an offense that promotes drug distribution among the public without authorization, and will prosecute under the law.
