Nonthaburi – A 31-year-old man driving a BMW sedan crashed into a tuk-tuk in a village in Bang Bua Thong, resulting in three deaths. He claimed he did not see the tuk-tuk. Alcohol test showed a level of 152 milligrams percent. Police have taken the driver into custody for prosecution.
At 04:10 on 20 July 2026, Police Lieutenant Colonel Nipon Polsawat, Deputy Investigating Officer of Bang Bua Thong Police Station, along with Ruamkatanyu Foundation personnel, arrived to investigate after receiving reports of a car crashing into a tuk-tuk with three fatalities. The incident occurred inside Chalada Village, Bang Bua Thong, on Bang Kruai-Sainoi Road, Soi Sonloi, Bang Bua Thong District. They coordinated with forensic doctors from the Institute of Forensic Science for further examination.
At the scene near entrance 12 of the village, two bodies were found immediately: Ms. Lamai Atchmakornlak, 82, and Ms. Prathumporn Prasertkantrok, 37 (the tuk-tuk driver). Another victim, Ms. Phat Channgo, 77, was given CPR by rescue workers for 30 minutes but later died. Total fatalities were three. The tuk-tuk, license plate SK 938 Nonthaburi, was found overturned with severe front-end damage.
The other party involved was a black BMW sedan, license plate 2ขฮ 982 Bangkok, crashed and wedged against a tree. The driver, Yotsathon Jongputhsiri, 31, was standing at the scene providing a statement to police. Relatives said Ms. Lamai and Ms. Phat regularly used that tuk-tuk to go to Bang Bua Thong market to sell goods.
Yotsathon, the BMW driver, appeared dazed and said he drove straight into the village and insisted he did not see the tuk-tuk, which caused the collision. Police tested his blood alcohol level, which registered at 152 milligrams percent, exceeding legal limits. He was taken into custody for prosecution.
Police stated they initially recorded the scene. The tuk-tuk was exiting from alley 12 just as Yotsathon’s BMW was approaching at high speed, resulting in a severe collision. Authorities will review CCTV footage from the scene. The BMW driver will be prosecuted. The deceased were handed over to the Ruamkatanyu Foundation to be transported to the Institute of Forensic Science for autopsy.
