A man driving a BMW iX3 crashed into a tuk-tuk, killing three people in a village in Bang Bua Thong. He had just come back from watching the World Cup final at a restaurant in Ratchaphruek and promised to take responsibility. Sadly, the victims were about to leave to sell snacks at the market. Relatives are at a loss for words and questioned why he was driving so fast inside the village.
At 04:30 on 20 July 2026, police at Bang Bua Thong station received a report of a BMW car crashing into a tuk-tuk with three fatalities. The accident occurred at the entrance of Soi 12 inside a village in Sano Loi subdistrict, Bang Bua Thong district, Nonthaburi province. Police, volunteers from Ruamkatanyu Foundation, and forensic medical staff rushed to the scene to investigate.
CCTV footage at 04:08 on 20 July 2026 showed the tuk-tuk picking up two passengers leaving Soi 12 and turning right to head toward the village entrance. A black BMW was speeding, violently striking the tuk-tuk before losing control and crashing into a roadside tree. The tuk-tuk driver and passengers died at the scene, totaling three victims.
At the main road in front of Soi 12 inside the village, authorities found three deceased: 1. Ms. Prathumporn Prasertkantrong, 37, the tuk-tuk driver; 2. Ms. Phat Saengngo, 77, passenger; 3. Ms. Lamai Atchakornlak, 82, passenger. Nearby, the tuk-tuk with license plate SK 938 Nonthaburi was overturned and severely damaged.
About 20 meters away, a black BMW iX3 with license plate 2ขฮ 982 Bangkok crashed into a tree. The front was badly damaged with deployed airbags. The driver, 32-year-old Yotthorn Jongputhisiri, appeared intoxicated and was waiting at the scene to give a statement to police. He briefly said he had just returned from watching the World Cup at a restaurant in Ratchaphruek and would take responsibility. When relatives asked if he had been drinking, Yotthorn gave no response.
Ms. Namploy Ploynamngern, 38, a niece of the victims, said the two aunts in the tuk-tuk were relatives who were about to go sell snacks at Bang Bua Thong market. The BMW swerved and crashed violently into the tuk-tuk. She was inside her house at the time, heard the crash, and rushed out to find the tuk-tuk hit. She did not know the BMW driver but he said he lived in the village and had just returned from watching football. When asked if he had been drinking, he did not answer. She vowed to pursue legal action fully.
Mr. Rungsak Prasertkantrong, 49, husband of the tuk-tuk driver, said his wife drove the tuk-tuk regularly to take the two aunts to Bang Bua Thong market for many years. He did not expect her to die in an accident. He was informed by a motorcycle taxi driver and initially did not believe it was his wife. At the scene, he was shaken and overwhelmed, left alone with two children aged grade 7 and grade 3 to support. Learning that the BMW driver was likely intoxicated, he said people must drive responsibly. Why speed inside a village? He asked authorities and media to ensure justice, as he is now alone to raise his children after 20 years together.
Initial police tests showed the BMW driver's blood alcohol level at 152 mg%, well above the legal limit. He will be taken to Bang Bua Thong police station to face legal proceedings.
