The Phra Khanong police investigation team swiftly arrested a gang of teenagers who attacked and fatally stabbed an 18-year-old man at the entrance of On Nut 39 alley. The motive was a hostile glare exchanged, despite the parties never having known each other before, causing the fatal stabbing.
At 03:00 on 20 July 2016, under the direction of Police Colonel Chaiwat Pradubthai, Superintendent of Phra Khanong Police Station, and Police Lieutenant Colonel Chawalit Trihirun, Deputy Superintendent of the Investigation Division, Police Lieutenant Colonel Phiphat Thepin, Head of Investigation, along with the investigation team, arrested three suspects: Mr. A (alias) aged 17, Mr. B (alias) aged 15, and Mr. C (alias) aged 19. They seized two motorcycles—a gray Yamaha NMAX with license plate 1ฆฬ 2466 Bangkok and a gray-black Honda Click 160 with plate 2ฆฌ 6317 Bangkok—as well as two helmets. The suspects were initially charged with jointly using a knife to kill a person. The arrest took place in front of Min Buri Metropolitan Police Station on Sihaburanukit Road, Min Buri district, Bangkok.
The case originated from a stabbing death reported on the evening of 19 July. Police Lieutenant Colonel Pornchai Pramuansuk, Deputy Investigation Officer at Phra Khanong Police Station, received the report of a fatal stabbing outside a convenience store at the entrance of On Nut 39 alley, Suan Luang district, Bangkok. Police Colonel Chaiwat Pradubthai, Superintendent of Phra Khanong Police, Police Lieutenant Colonel Chawalit Trihirun, Deputy Superintendent of the Investigation Division, Police Lieutenant Colonel Phiphat Thepin, Head of Investigation, forensic officers, medical examiners from the Department of Forensic Medicine, Faculty of Medicine, Chulalongkorn University, and volunteers from Poh Teck Tung Foundation responded to the scene.
At the scene, the body of Jirattchayut Thammachat, 18, was found lying on his back, wearing a white short-sleeved T-shirt and black sports shorts. He had three stab wounds: two in the chest and one in the abdomen.
Investigation revealed that before the incident, Jirattchayut was walking near the location when three teenagers on two motorcycles stopped, surrounded him, and stabbed him with a knife before fleeing the scene on their motorcycles.
The arrest team reviewed CCTV footage and identified the motorcycle involved, bearing license plate 1ฆฬ 2466 Bangkok, registered to Mr. Saiyan Kamnet, who lives in On Nut 39 alley. Upon inquiry, Mr. Saiyan said he lent the motorcycle to his nephew, Mr. Nantapong. They also contacted Ms. Orada, 37, mother of Mr. A (alias), 17. Mr. A then contacted his mother to report that he and his accomplices had turned themselves in at Min Buri Police Station, whereupon police moved to arrest them.
During interrogation, Mr. A (alias), 17, confessed to wielding the knife and attacking the victim. Mr. B (alias), 15, and Mr. C (alias), 19, admitted to standing guard during the attack. After the crime, all three discarded the knife and a jacket in Ban Ma canal near Motorway 5 Intersection 3, Thap Chang subdistrict, Saphan Sung district, Bangkok, where authorities recovered the items.
Police Lieutenant Colonel Chawalit Trihirun, Deputy Superintendent of the Investigation Division at Phra Khanong Police Station, stated that before the incident, the victim, who attended school only on weekends, had come to visit his girlfriend in On Nut 39 alley. He encountered the three suspects, whom he had never met before. A hostile glare passed between them, which escalated into the attack. The suspects are students at the Bangkok Industrial Technical College in Bang Kapi district. All three have been handed over with the evidence to Phra Khanong police for prosecution on charges of joint murder.
