The Lampang Provincial Police Chief has ordered a crackdown on the youth gangs “5 Baht Technique” and “Talat Lang” who have continuously attacked and stabbed people in Lampang. Many cases remain unresolved because the offenders are minors.
On 22 Jul 2026 GMT+7, at the Lampang Provincial Police Headquarters, Pol. Maj. Gen. Phumipanya Nawatrakulpisut, Chief of Lampang Provincial Police, along with Pol. Col. Kritsada Phankasem, Deputy Chief, Pol. Col. Phairoj Thongkhao, Chief of Investigations, Pol. Col. Khomsan Bamrungyot, Chief of Lampang City Police Station, and Pol. Col. Phuchit Triyamprai, Chief of Khelang Nakhon Police Station, held a meeting to monitor crime in the area. They instructed all units to intensify efforts against troublesome youth gangs causing distress to the public, especially the groups self-identified as “5 Baht Technique” and “Talat Lang,” which have committed repeated violent acts across Lampang City and Khelang Nakhon jurisdictions.
Police have compiled information and created a list of over 10 members of these youth gangs, including minors under 18 and adults. They are currently reviewing backgrounds, behaviors, and collecting evidence to proceed with legal action.
Pol. Col. Kritsada Phankasem, Deputy Chief of Lampang Provincial Police, revealed that Pol. Maj. Gen. Phumipanya Nawatrakulpisut assigned him to lead the task force monitoring this issue. The operation involves coordinated efforts between Lampang City and Khelang Nakhon Police Stations alongside the provincial investigation unit, targeting suspects with existing cases for rapid legal processing. Measures also include meeting with guardians to seek cooperation in having minors surrender and to jointly oversee youths’ behavior to prevent involvement in further gang activities.
Due to the gangs’ violent behavior causing widespread fear and insecurity among the public, Lampang police affirm they will promptly arrest all offenders and strictly enforce the law to stop the disturbance and restore public confidence in safety within Lampang province.
The “5 Baht Technique” and “Talat Lang” gangs consist mainly of youths aged 15 to early 20s, many of whom are not enrolled in formal education. They have previously assaulted workers in front of a durian shop using knives, then attacked a noodle shop owner with a golf club and stabbed him over 10 times. They have also assaulted youths in multiple locations, with cases pending in Lampang City and Khelang Nakhon police jurisdictions. These incidents have prompted public criticism and urgent calls for police to take decisive action against these youth gangs.
