In Chachoengsao, a highway police sergeant fired a 9mm gun, shooting a police lieutenant more than 10 times after returning from a social gathering and having a personal argument about work, which escalated. The shooter then sat and waited to surrender to the Bang Khla police at the scene.
At 01:30 on 23 July 2026, Lieutenant Patipak Ngaokaew, deputy investigator of Bang Khla Police Station, received a report of a shooting incident resulting in injuries. He coordinated with Bang Khla Hospital’s rescue team to investigate and then reported to Pol. Col. Somchai Yusawat, Deputy Provincial Police Chief of Chachoengsao, and Pol. Col. Sumit Promtong, Chief of Bang Khla Police Station, who along with the Bang Khla investigative team proceeded to the scene.
At the scene at the Bang Khla Highway Police Service Unit, Moo 5, Tha Thong Lang Subdistrict, Bang Khla District, Chachoengsao, Lieutenant Yutthapong was found shot with a 9mm handgun in areas under the lower sternum, left arm, and hip, with bullets lodged inside. He was lying injured near the parking area but was still able to speak. Rescue workers took him to Phutthasothon Hospital. Sergeant Phisanu Malaison, the shooter, was found at the scene waiting to surrender to police.
Initial investigation revealed that both officers rotated shifts at the service point every 10 days. The victim was the head of the service booth, and the shooter was on duty that day. Both had attended a gathering with over 10 fellow officers at a restaurant in Plaeng Yao District, Chachoengsao, where a personal argument about work began. The dispute continued from the restaurant to the service booth, escalating until the shooter decided to resolve the matter by firing more than 10 shots, injuring the victim.
A local resident at the service booth, visibly shocked, said they heard voices like a quarrel and then multiple gunshots. Peeking through the window, they saw both the shooter and the victim at the scene.
Authorities will collect evidence, interview witnesses, and proceed with investigations following legal procedures.
