In the incident, Mr. Nopparat, known as "Sun," aged 23, brazenly drew a gun and shot Mr. Phokai, 27, dead at Bueng Thong Lang Temple in Khlong Chan, Bang Kapi district, Bangkok. The victim was attending the funeral rites of his girlfriend. Subsequently, police investigators intensified their efforts, tracking leads until they located and surrounded a housing unit in Soi Khu Bon 27. Tensions escalated when the suspect, believed to be Nopparat, opened fire on officers to break through the blockade, sparking a fierce gunfight with dozens of shots fired.
On 2 August 2026, Police Lieutenant General Siam Boonsom, Metropolitan Police Commander, revealed that at 02:14, while officers were conducting the siege, two gunshots were heard. The Arintharaj unit then stormed the room, safely rescuing the suspect’s girlfriend. They found Nopparat had used a firearm to harm himself. Officers rushed him to the hospital as he still had a pulse.
Upon inspection, authorities safely extracted the girlfriend before finding Sun lying in a pool of blood with severe head wounds caused by a self-inflicted gunshot in an attempt to escape justice. Emergency medical personnel performed CPR and detected a pulse, promptly transporting him urgently to the hospital to save his life.
Officials revealed the tragic incident stemmed from a personal conflict and deep-seated resentment. The suspect’s girlfriend was close friends with the victim’s wife, who was involved in the temple incident. After the death, heated arguments and harsh words ensued. Additionally, Sun harbored accumulated grudges against both the victim and his own wife, leading him to arm himself and shoot the victim at the temple before fleeing and later ending his own life.
Initially, Kanna Yao police summoned the suspect’s girlfriend, relatives, and close friends who were present during the incident for further questioning to complete the legal case file. The scene has been resolved, and residents in the building have returned to their homes and normal life.
Regarding the motive for Nopparat’s shooting of Mr. Phokai, preliminary investigations found that Nopparat knew Ms. Nutwipha, who was Phokai’s girlfriend, and was angered after Phokai accidentally discharged a firearm that caused her death.
