After authorities jointly surrounded a palm plantation to pursue a gang that shot two police detectives from Tak Bai Police Station, one suspect has raised their hands and surrendered. Officials are conducting intense interrogations while the others remain on the run; some have been injured.

This was the site where suspects used firearms to fatally shoot two detectives from Tak Bai Police Station. The manhunt has continued since 2 Aug 2026 GMT+7.
Officials pressed the pursuit, narrowing the perimeter toward the center of the rectangular-shaped palm plantation. They fired sporadically into dense cover where suspects were believed to be hiding. Then authorities heard a request to surrender and ordered the suspect to walk into an open area, raising both hands above his head. Officials cautiously approached to take him into custody and notified Pol. Lt. Gen. Piyawat Chalermsri, Commander of Region 9 Police, and Pol. Maj. Gen. Prayong Kotsakha, Commander of Narathiwat Provincial Police, before transferring the suspect for questioning at Interrogation Center 1 in Narathiwat.
Sources said the surrendering suspect is one of six involved in the Bukeh Sami checkpoint shooting and was unarmed. He claimed the rest of the group fled separately, with two members wounded by police gunfire. He and others had descended from the Mo Tae mountain range after special operations units from three provinces pressured them there. Following the attack on the Bukeh Sami checkpoint in Ra-ngae district, they hid in a shelter until Tak Bai Police Station officers approached to arrest them, prompting the suspects to open fire, killing and injuring police officers.
There are no reports yet whether the remaining suspects are still in the palm plantation area. However, authorities continue to use available forces to pressure and pursue until the area is cleared.
