Police conducted a drug buy-bust where the gang abandoned a young mother holding her infant, along with 2.5 million methamphetamine pills, 24 baht of gold bars, and nearly 300,000 baht in cash.
At 11:00 on 6 August 2026, Provincial Police Region 5 held a press conference with Police Lieutenant General Kritthaphon Yisakorn, Commander of Region 5 Police; Police Major General Yuttana Kaenjan, Commander of Chiang Mai Provincial Police; and Police Colonel Danuphan Pangkai, Chief of Mae On Police Station, Chiang Mai, alongside military and the Office of Narcotics Control Board Region 5, highlighting a notable case in Mae On, Chiang Mai.
The incident occurred on 4 August 2026. Police Colonel Danuphan Pangkai and his team arrested Miss Wae, 26, a Shan ethnic woman from Myanmar, carrying her infant about one year old, beside the Mae On–San Kamphaeng New Route (approximately 200 meters from Highland Golf Course) in Huay Kaew Subdistrict, Mae On District, Chiang Mai. Four suspects fled. The evidence included 8 sacks of methamphetamine—about 2.5 million pills—gold jewelry and bars totaling about 24 baht worth approximately 1.5 million baht, cash of 290,050 baht, and a white Isuzu four-door pickup truck registered in Chiang Mai.
Police Colonel Danuphan Pangkai, Chief of Mae On Police, stated that around 9:00 a.m., they received notification from the narcotics task force at Region 5 that at about 7:00 a.m., they conducted a drug buy-bust for methamphetamine at the scene. At the scheduled delivery, five suspects—four men and one woman—arrived in a white four-door pickup truck registered in Chiang Mai to deliver the drugs to an undercover agent.
After the successful delivery, the police revealed themselves to arrest the suspects, who then fled by driving away. The pursuit led to the suspects' vehicle crashing and stopping beside a road in San Kamphaeng District, Chiang Mai. The four male suspects fled on foot, leaving Miss Wae inside the pickup truck. Authorities detained her along with her infant and the seized evidence. Investigators and officers from Mae On Police inspected the scene to proceed with legal actions and continue investigating to apprehend the remaining suspects.
In addition, Provincial Police Region 5 announced drug seizure results from Mae Chan Police Station in Chiang Rai and Mueang Chiang Mai Police Station, totaling three major drug cases.
