Police Region 1 Commander revealed that a junior high school student who committed a mass shooting at Thepsirin School in Nonthaburi used a computer to record and watch foreign mass shooting clips before carrying out the attack.
At 14:40 on 7 August 2026, Pol. Lt. Gen. Watthana Yi Chin, Police Region 1 Commander, along with administrative officials, rescue personnel, and forensic staff, inspected the perpetrator’s residence in Bang Kurad, Bang Bua Thong District, Nonthaburi Province. The house is a two-story detached home with a secure fence. Inside, two deceased persons were found, identified as the perpetrator’s grandfather and grandmother. Officials are collecting evidence from the scene.
Pol. Lt. Gen. Watthana disclosed that initially the house’s gate was locked from the outside. Officers forced entry and found the two deceased, the grandfather and grandmother. The grandfather was shot from behind, with the bullet passing through to the front, suggesting he was shot first, then the grandmother, who was asleep at the time. Afterwards, the door was locked to prevent anyone from discovering what happened before the perpetrator proceeded to commit the school attack.
However, official details will await medical examination results. At the time of the incident, no neighbors heard gunshots because the area is sparsely populated with many abandoned houses, so no one was aware of the sound.
Regarding the motive and the perpetrator’s behavior, officials are thoroughly examining the student’s computer, as the child frequently used it. It is still unclear whether violent games were involved. Investigations are ongoing to identify any other potential motivations.
Reports indicate that the desktop computer contained five video clips of foreign mass shootings, which the perpetrator had viewed since 30 July, prior to committing the tragic incident on 7 August 2026.
