The Commander of Provincial Police Region 1 clarified that Chalorng Ruewarang, former MP, explained the reasons after shooting the Nonthaburi PAO chief. There were no special privileges given; he simply wanted to apologize to the victim's relatives through the media instead of any special treatment.
Regarding the case where Chalorng Ruewarang, former multi-term MP for Nonthaburi, attacked and shot Pol. Col. Thongchai Yenprasert, chief of the Nonthaburi Provincial Administrative Organization, inside the PAO office located within the Nonthaburi Provincial Hall, as previously reported.
At 13:56 on 10 Aug, Pol. Lt. Gen. Watthana Yijin, Commander of Provincial Police Region 1, stated that during interrogation, Chalorng confessed to being the sole perpetrator. The motive currently is a personal grievance between Chalorng and Pol. Col. Thongchai regarding a long-standing loan of several million baht, which had been repeatedly demanded for repayment. The facts are still being compiled. The incident involved close-range shooting. Further details are under investigation to determine whether there was any preparation or legal justification.
Regarding claims that the shooting was self-defense because the driver allegedly drew a gun to shoot, Pol. Lt. Gen. Watthana said that whatever the suspect's statement, the facts must be verified at the scene. There is CCTV footage, and the Forensic Police have been instructed to thoroughly collect evidence, as there are various claims to be prepared for, including self-defense.
On whether Chalorng was given any special privileges to explain himself, Pol. Lt. Gen. Watthana said Chalorng personally requested to apologize to the victim's relatives via the media. The apology was a personal matter only. The firearm used in the incident is currently under investigation to determine ownership.
Pol. Lt. Gen. Watthana also said that the Nonthaburi PAO chief remains in critical condition while the driver is safe. An inspection revealed that a gun was indeed inside the PAO chief's vehicle, but it was not fired.
Regarding whether the loan dispute was the sole reason Chalorng shot the PAO chief, Pol. Lt. Gen. Watthana said they are still listening to all information.
