In Phatthalung, the Thalenoi Police Station has intensified drug urine testing for all personnel following a video clip showing a sergeant displaying behavior resembling drug use during an online training session. It was revealed that 14 officers did not participate in the activity due to various duties, including attending training, performing official tasks, and assisting other agencies.
On 15 August 2026 in Phatthalung Province, reporters reported that the Region 9 Provincial Police Office held a training course to enhance the efficiency of police officers in prevention and suppression, investigation, intelligence, traffic, and administrative departments for fiscal year 2026. The training was conducted via videoconference on 10–11 August 2026 at officers’ residences, followed by practical training at the Region 9 Training Center in Yala Province from 12–14 August 2026.
On 10 August 2026, Sergeant Weerasak Sukram, section chief of prevention and suppression at Thalenoi Police Station and currently serving as a radio officer there, was seen using drugs on camera during the videoconference training.
This incident caused many attending officers to be shocked and report it to their superiors. They also asked reporters to investigate the dignity of the officer involved. Pol. Maj. Gen. Chaowalit Liengsupong, Commander of Phatthalung Provincial Police, ordered Police Colonel Rangsee Manjit, Chief of Thalenoi Police Station, to urgently investigate the facts and report immediately. If confirmed, strict disciplinary and legal actions will be taken, as previously reported.
At approximately 11:00 a.m. on 14 August 2026, at Thalenoi Police Station, Pol. Maj. Gen. Chaowalit Liengsupong, Commander of Phatthalung Provincial Police, Pol. Colonel Thanasit Chongwang, Deputy Commander, Mr. Wanchai Petchrat, Director of Law Enforcement Division at the Region 9 Office of the Narcotics Suppression Bureau, Pol. Colonel Rangsee Manjit, Chief of Thalenoi Police Station, and health officials from Thalenoi Subdistrict Health Promoting Hospital in Khuan Khanun District jointly conducted urine tests to detect drugs among police personnel.
Forty-five police officers at Thalenoi Police Station underwent drug testing. The remaining 14 officers who did not participate included some attending practical training at the Region 9 Training Center in Yala Province, those on leave, eleven on duty, and three assisting other agencies. Further testing of all station officers will continue.
The results for the 45 officers tested on that day showed no presence of drugs in their urine.
Regarding efforts to locate Sergeant Weerasak Sukram, section chief of prevention and suppression at Thalenoi Police Station, for questioning about the scandalous video, the commanding officers have yet to make contact. The sergeant also did not attend the practical training at the Region 9 Training Center in Yala Province from 12–14 August 2026. Commanders and relevant officers plan to use technical data to locate Sergeant Weerasak and proceed with questioning and investigation according to legal procedures promptly.
