Thanyaburi Court sentenced a money mule gang to 4 years in prison for collaborating with scammers who defrauded Prosecutor Dao's mother of over 700,000 baht, charging them with money laundering.
On 18 Aug 2026, reporters reported that on 11 Aug, Thanyaburi Provincial Court read its verdict in a call center gang case. The Thanyaburi public prosecutor charged Ms. Anchalee, Ms. Wiangsawan (Lao national), a fertilizer company, Mr. Supong, and Mr. Thanakorn as defendants for jointly participating in an international criminal organization, defrauding the public, acting as a gang and as a criminal syndicate, conspiring with two or more persons to commit money laundering, and jointly laundering money.
The case involved a call center gang that created a fake profile under the name "Harry Chard," claiming to be a Vietnamese businessman. They contacted Mrs. Boonkrong, the victim and mother of Ms. Supaporn Nipwanich, known as Prosecutor Dao, a special expert prosecutor at the Criminal Court, via social media platforms Facebook and WhatsApp. They deceived the victim by claiming a parcel from abroad was held at the airport due to overweight. They then tricked her into transferring parcel fees and various charges multiple times, totaling over 700,000 baht. After receiving the money, the gang transferred and dispersed it through the defendants via financial routes and asset conversion.
The court considered the evidence and found that the prosecution's evidence was credible that Ms. Anchalee, Ms. Wiangsawan, and Mr. Thanakorn, defendants 1, 2, and 5, opened numerous bank accounts to receive abnormal fund transfers. Notably, Ms. Wiangsawan, defendant 2, clearly used the money to trade cryptocurrency (USDT) to convert and conceal the true source of the funds, constituting the offense of joint money laundering.
Regarding other charges, the prosecution's evidence was insufficient to prove that defendants 1, 2, and 5 directly participated in creating the fake profile or inputting false data into computer systems to deceive the victim. As for the remaining defendants, the prosecution lacked evidence of their involvement in money laundering offenses.
The court ruled that Ms. Anchalee, Ms. Wiangsawan, and Mr. Thanakorn, defendants 1, 2, and 5, were guilty of joint money laundering and sentenced each to 4 years in prison. Other charges and defendants were acquitted.
