
Phuket province launched a nine-day island-wide sweep targeting illegal firearms, resulting in 39 cases apprehended, 26 guns confiscated, and nearly 500 rounds of ammunition seized, with plans to enhance security measures throughout the province.
At 11:00 a.m. on 22 August 2026, Police Major General Sinlert Sukhum, Commander of Phuket Provincial Police, spoke about mobilizing police forces across the province to continuously crack down on crimes related to firearms, ammunition, and related equipment. This aims to prevent the use of weapons in violent incidents, reduce risks to life and property, and strengthen safety confidence among residents and tourists in Phuket.
According to the Center for Coordination of Crime Suppression Related to Firearms and Ammunition (CCOC), between 12–20 August 2026, Phuket Provincial Police, covering all 12 subordinate stations, achieved 39 arrests out of a target of 45 cases, seizing 26 firearms, 13 firearm accessories, and 495 rounds of ammunition.
The operation covered police stations under Phuket Provincial Police including Chalong, Mueang Phuket, Tha Chatchai, Kathu, Karon, Kamala, Thalang, Patong, Wichit, Cherngtalay, and Sakoo stations. This reflects integrated efforts and proactive operations across all areas.
Police Major General Sinlert added that these actions follow the policies of the Royal Thai Police and Phuket Provincial Police, emphasizing intelligence gathering, targeting, and arresting offenders involved with firearms and ammunition. Officers were instructed to strictly adhere to laws, regulations, and police tactics, while coordinating closely among units.
At the same time, Phuket Provincial Police continue proactive crime prevention and suppression efforts, particularly against illegal possession of firearms and ammunition, to prevent weapons from being used in crimes, reduce risks to life and property, and continuously enhance security measures and build confidence among residents and tourists in Phuket.
