DSI Concludes Case Files, Recommends Prosecuting Chonnapat Scheduled to Meet Special Prosecutor Tomorrow, 24 Aug

The Department of Special Investigation (DSI) has concluded its case files and recommended prosecution. Chonnapat Naksua. In the triad and transnational organized crime case, after acknowledging charges in July, he is scheduled to meet the special prosecutor tomorrow, 24 August.

On 23 August 2026, reporters reported that the Department of Special Investigation, through its special investigation team on technology and information cases, expanded the investigation into an online gambling network linked to Chonnapat Naksua, a Songkhla MP for Constituency 4 of the Kla Party. The investigation involves two special cases: the first, Special Case No. 150/2568, concerns a major online gambling network in the southern region with over 1 billion baht in financial circulation. Financial trails were found connecting to Chonnapat. During the DSI’s "Operation Gameflow" search on 5 March 2026, officers searched 10 locations across four provinces—five in Songkhla, two in Nonthaburi, one in Pathum Thani, and two in Bangkok—aiming to arrest gambling network suspects under 26 criminal warrants issued by the Criminal Court. Assets seized included real estate, brand-name bags, and a Toyota Alphard valued over 10 million baht, believed to be proceeds of crime.

In this case, the DSI has forwarded the case files for prosecution to the special prosecutors and has arrested and detained two suspects, Ms. Narirat (surname withheld) and Ms. Siriwan (surname withheld), from the total of 26 warrants. Charges include organizing unauthorized electronic gambling, conspiracy involving two or more persons, money laundering, participation in transnational organized crime, and triad offenses. The remaining 24 suspects are fugitives hiding in neighboring countries.

Subsequently, the special investigation team separated another case, Special Case No. 87/2569, to directly investigate the online gambling website linked to Chonnapat. The Attorney General determined that part of the offenses occurred outside Thailand, invoking Section 20 of the Criminal Procedure Code to assign the DSI Director-General and the special investigation team to add two charges against Chonnapat: triad offenses under Section 209 of the Criminal Code, punishable by up to 7 years imprisonment and a fine up to 140,000 baht, and participation in transnational organized crime under the Prevention and Suppression of Transnational Organized Crime Act B.E. 2556 (2013), punishable by 4 to 15 years imprisonment, fines from 80,000 to 300,000 baht, or both.

Chonnapat came forward to acknowledge the additional charges with the DSI as ordered by the Attorney General on 13 July 2026 and has provided statements to refute the allegations. The special investigation team has since finalized the case files with recommendations to prosecute and scheduled Chonnapat to meet the special prosecutor at the Special Case Office, Office of the Attorney General on Ratchadaphisek Road, Bangkok, at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, 24 August 2026 for indictment.

Special Case No. 87/2569 was separated from the original Special Case No. 150/2568 because Chonnapat was serving as a Member of Parliament during the case development and thus had parliamentary immunity. The investigators separated his case alone to avoid delays in processing the main special case No. 150/2568.
