Authorities have detained the vehicle owner and gunman from a gang connected to police offspring who ambushed and shot two teenagers riding motorcycles in the Nawamin area. The mother claims her son was chased and shot at first. Meanwhile, the injured boy’s mother tearfully said her son is still in critical condition, with doctors stating he is half dead already due to his injuries and ongoing treatment.
On 24 Aug 2026, Lieutenant Commander Kobkit Sukwuttiya, Deputy Inspector (Investigation) of Lat Phrao Police Station, received a report of a shooting incident with injuries at the entrance of Nawamin 60 Alley, Nawamin Subdistrict, Bueng Kum District, Bangkok. Upon arrival, officers found two injured teenage males lying on the sidewalk. They were identified as Thanadol Phakkrasae, 23, who was shot twice in the right chest, critically injured, and Veerapap (surname withheld), 16, who had abrasions on his body. Nearby, a white Honda Lead motorcycle with Bangkok registration, belonging to the victims, was found overturned.
Initial investigation revealed that Thanadol worked as a food delivery rider. Before the incident, he was riding his motorcycle with Veerapap as a passenger, coming from Prasert Manukit Road (Kaset-Nawamin) heading toward Bang Kapi. At the scene, a white Toyota Freed car, license plate unknown, drove aggressively close to Thanadol, causing him to try to evade. At the entrance of Nawamin 60 Alley, the passenger in the car lowered the window and fired a gun at the victims, causing the motorcycle to crash. The attackers then fled the scene. The incident occurred at approximately 02:18.
Subsequently, the investigation team searched the suspected perpetrator’s residence in Soi Ratphattana 15, Thap Chang Subdistrict, Saphan Sung District, Bangkok. This is the home of Mati, the car owner suspected in the case. CCTV footage confirmed that Mati drove the vehicle involved back to his home. Vehicle registration checks confirmed Mati’s ownership of the Toyota Freed used in the shooting. Police seized the vehicle for forensic examination, finding one bullet mark on the left window glass.
The arrest team detained Mati and brought him to the Lat Phrao Police investigation room for questioning. During the transfer, relatives of the injured rushed forward and punched Mati in the face, prompting him to flee into a bathroom. Officers intervened and calmed the situation, escorting the victim’s relatives outside to regain composure.
Later, at 13:40, Mrs. Phen (a pseudonym), 54, mother of Ice, 20, the shooter who fired at Thanadol, brought her son to surrender to Police Colonel Thanaphan, Chief of Lat Phrao Police Station.
Mrs. Phen disclosed that after the incident she spoke with her son, who admitted to shooting. She explained that about a week earlier, the victims’ group had chased and shot at her son’s friends, injuring one friend’s leg, but no formal complaint had been filed. The two groups have had conflicts for over five years, but it had not escalated to serious violence or use of weapons until now. Ice said he obtained the firearm from a friend; normally he does not possess a gun, only a plastic toy gun.
Mrs. Phen further stated that her son and his friends are not delinquent or aggressive; they usually just gather to play mobile games. She last saw her son at 20:00 the previous evening when he came down for dinner, then went back to his room. She was unaware of the subsequent events until morning, when she immediately brought her son to surrender to police.
Meanwhile, Thanadol’s mother and family gave statements to investigators. She expressed frustration that the perpetrators are children of police officers who seem to act with impunity, facing charges but repeating offenses after release. She called for the perpetrators’ parents to acknowledge the situation. Her family cannot afford legal battles. She reported that Thanadol remains in critical condition; doctors say he is essentially half dead. Only one bullet could be surgically removed so far; the other remains lodged near his spinal bone, a critical area that cannot be operated on yet. He also suffers from a torn lung and requires close medical care.
At 16:00 on 24 Aug 2026, Police Colonel Thanaphan Phadungkan, Chief of Lat Phrao Police Station, along with the investigative unit, escorted the shooter, Ongart or Ice, 20, who used a firearm to shoot Thanadol Phakkrasae, 23, critically wounded, to search his rented room in Nawamin 54 Alley to find the weapon used.
Officers found a .380 caliber magazine pistol with three additional rounds hidden inside a wardrobe. The gun was seized as evidence for forensic examination to determine if it is linked to the shooting incident and to support prosecution.
Preliminary interrogation revealed that Ice claimed to have purchased the firearm online for 10,000 baht. Police are currently investigating the firearm’s origin and pursuing further leads.
