Cyber police, led by Deputy Pol. Maj. Gen. Tinakorn Rangmaty, the incoming chief of the Cyber Crime Investigation Bureau, announced the results of raids at 200 locations nationwide, arresting 186 suspects and seizing 228 guns and over 1,200 rounds of ammunition after investigating illegal gun sales conducted online.
At 14:30 on 25 Aug 2026 at the Cyber Crime Investigation Bureau headquarters in Muang Thong Thani, Pak Kret district, Nonthaburi province, Pol. Lt. Gen. Suraphol Prembutr, chief of the Cyber Crime Investigation Bureau, assigned Deputy Pol. Maj. Gen. Tinakorn Rangmaty, Deputy Chief; Deputy Pol. Maj. Gen. Chatchapan Kan Klayklung, Deputy Chief; Pol. Maj. Gen. Siriwat Deepo, chief of Division 1; and Pol. Maj. Gen. Krittachai Bamrungrattanayot, chief of Division 4, to jointly announce the launch of raids at 200 sites targeting illegal firearms.
Deputy Pol. Maj. Gen. Tinakorn Rangmaty stated that, following government and national police policy, the Cyber Crime Investigation Bureau is intensifying efforts to suppress all forms of online crime to prevent criminal acts or violence that could threaten the safety and property of the public. This includes offenses involving illegal firearms and ammunition, the illicit online trade of weapons and ammunition, and carrying firearms without permission.
There have been incidents of gun violence in Nonthaburi province resulting in multiple deaths and injuries. Since 12 August 2026, the Cyber Crime Investigation Bureau has ordered investigative teams from Divisions 1 to 5 to coordinate sweeping searches of individuals and residences linked to firearms and ammunition nationwide, covering more than 200 sites across 16 provinces.
Investigations revealed that several individuals were covertly engaging in illegal gun sales through various online channels. As a result of this operation, 186 offenders were arrested, and 228 firearms were seized, including 33 registered guns, 194 unregistered guns, one military-grade weapon, 1,294 rounds of ammunition, 27 firearm accessories, and one improvised explosive device.
Deputy Pol. Maj. Gen. Tinakorn further warned the public against buying, selling, possessing, or carrying firearms illegally, and discouraged supporting online firearm transactions. He emphasized that such actions are punishable by law and may lead to crimes and violence causing harm to life and property.
He also urged lawful firearm owners to strictly comply with regulations and avoid involvement in illegal gun trade, modification, or possession in any form. The cyber police will continue to investigate, crack down on, and prosecute offenders rigorously and consistently to break the cycle of illegal firearms as directed by government policy.
