Thana Chuwong, Deputy Commissioner of the Royal Thai Police, spoke during a media briefing on crime suppression operations related to firearms, ammunition, and explosives between 12–26 August 2026, addressing the consideration process for the 2026 police transfers from Assistant Commissioner to Provincial Police Commander levels.
He affirmed that the process was conducted fairly with the best effort, taking as long as 14 hours. He emphasized that the appointment screening committee carefully considered candidates to ensure the most appropriate and balanced outcomes.
The Deputy Commissioner stated that due to the limited number of positions, it might not be possible to satisfy everyone. However, he assured that decisions were based on suitability, knowledge, competence, and set criteria. Qualified and appropriate individuals will definitely be considered. Regarding transfers and appointments, he confirmed the process was as fair as possible. While not everyone can be pleased, the committee strives for balance and fairness due to the limited positions, ensuring those who are suitable will be properly considered.
For the 2026 annual appointments of police general officers, there are currently 163 vacancies, including 3 Deputy Commissioner positions, 6 Assistant Commissioner positions, 19 Provincial Police Commander positions, 41 Deputy Provincial Police Commander positions, and 94 Provincial Police Commander positions. The screening committee, chaired by the Police Commissioner, met on 23 August to review these appointments.
