A PhD medical student brought evidence to the 'Saimai Must Survive' page after being scammed by a call center gang who tricked him into transferring money and even sent people to collect cash from his home, resulting in a loss of 11 million baht over three days. The gang impersonated officials to deceive him.
On 28 Aug 2026, reporters learned that Mr. Bank (alias), a PhD medical student, arrived with evidence to file a complaint with the 'Saimai Must Survive' page after falling victim to a call center gang claiming to be mobile network employees and police officers. They deceived him into transferring money and sending people to collect cash at his residence, causing a loss of nearly 11 million baht within just three days.
The incident began on 22 August 2026 at about 15:00, when a caller claiming to be a mobile network employee informed Mr. Bank that someone had used his name to open a phone number in Loei Province to scam others. He was urged to contact the Loei Police Station to close the number if uninvolved. The call was then transferred to a man posing as a police officer. They added him on Line and made video calls showing official IDs to gain trust. Taking advantage of his stress from research work, the criminals threatened that if he did not comply, his hard-earned education would be wasted and his parents could be arrested. They instructed him to lie to his family, saying he needed money to study in Switzerland as a cover to obtain funds.
Frightened and believing the scam, Mr. Bank transferred money 11 times on 23 August to six different accounts totaling 4.5 million baht. However, the criminals claimed this was insufficient and ordered him to prepare cash, promising to send people to collect it at his home. Over three consecutive days, cash was collected: 1.6 million baht on 23 August, 2 million baht on 24 August, and 2.9 million baht on 25 August, totaling 6.5 million baht in cash. The total loss amounted to 10,995,000 baht.
Late on 25 August, the gang called again to threaten that individuals linked to the accounts would come to kill him to silence him and told him to flee. After escaping and calling his family to explain everything, Mr. Bank realized he was scammed and promptly reported the case to Phayathai Police Station the same day. However, when contacting the AOC 1441 hotline, he was advised to contact his bank directly to freeze the accounts for faster results. The victim cautioned the public that if contacted by state officials, they should only confront real officials in person or wait for a court summons and not be afraid.
Mr. Ekaphop Luangprasert, founder of the 'Saimai Must Survive' page, urged police to urgently review CCTV footage to identify those who collected cash from the residence as the incident just occurred and financial trails should still be traceable. He also warned those operating so-called “mule accounts” that they will face strict legal action and be held responsible for damages.“Mule accounts”He added that the page will expedite coordination with Police Major General Chotiwat Luangwilai, Commander of the Metropolitan Police Bureau’s Investigation Division, and Police Colonel Thanapon Klinkesorn, Superintendent of Phayathai Police Station, to accelerate the arrest of all involved parties and recover assets for the victim as soon as possible.
