Crime Suppression Division Arrests Suspect in Fatal Gang Assault Case After Over 10 Years in Hiding, One Day Before Statute of Limitations

The Crime Suppression Division's Unit 5 arrested a suspect involved in a gang assault on a rival that resulted in the victim's death, after the suspect had been in hiding for more than 10 years—just one day before the arrest warrant expired under the statute of limitations.

On 30 August 2026, Pol. Maj. Gen. Phatthanasak Bupphasuwan, Commander of the Crime Suppression Division, ordered Pol. Col. Thanawat Hinyokhin, Chief of Unit 5, along with Pol. Lt. Col. Watit Jitjanthik, Deputy Chief of Unit 5, and Police Sub-Lieutenant Kasemsak Plengsaeng, Deputy Inspector of Unit 5, to arrest Mr. Nattawut, also known as Nat, 45, under the Bangkok South Criminal Court warrant No. 364/2016 dated 31 August 2016, charged with "offense against life" (with a 10-year statute of limitations expiring on 31 August 2026). The arrest took place on the rooftop of a company on Rama 9 Road, Bang Kapi Subdistrict, Huai Khwang District, Bangkok.

This case dates back to 1 November 2003, when the victim and a group of three suspects had an argument at a nightclub in Thonglor. The suspects then gang-assaulted the victim, causing severe injuries that led to his death. The victim's relatives filed a complaint with the Thonglor Police Station, pressing charges against the suspects for jointly assaulting another resulting in death. The case proceeded to court, but after being granted bail, the suspects fled and failed to attend the court verdict, leading to an arrest warrant. The statute of limitations was set for 10 years from 31 August 2016, until no later than 31 August 2026.

Since then, the suspect remained on the run until authorities discovered he was hiding inside a company located on Rama 9 Road in Bang Kapi Subdistrict.

Authorities obtained a search warrant from the court and planned a raid, eventually finding Mr. Nattawut hiding on the rooftop, where they proceeded to arrest him.

During interrogation, the suspect admitted he had been living a covert life confined to the company premises, waiting for the arrest warrant to expire on 31 August 2026. However, he was caught before that date. He was taken into custody for an arrest record at Wang Thonglang Police Station before being transferred to Bangkok South Criminal Court to face legal proceedings.
