Phuket Rider Dies After Motorcycle Falls into Uncovered Drain Police to Question Contractor

A tragic event in Phuket: a young delivery rider fell into an uncovered roadside drainage ditch while riding a motorcycle, resulting in his death. Wichit Police Station plans to summon the contractor for questioning and will file charges of negligent homicide if negligence is found.

At 17:10 on 1 Sep 2026, Pol. Col. Somsak Thongkliang, superintendent of Wichit Police Station, received a report from Lt. Wutichai Janphai, deputy investigation officer of Wichit Police Station, that there was a death at Dibuk Hospital in Phuket on Chaofa Tawan Tok Road, Wichit Subdistrict, Mueang Phuket District. The cause was a motorcycle accident where the rider fell into a drainage ditch on Chaofa Tawan Tok Road, in front of King Power Phuket, Moo 2, Wichit Subdistrict, Mueang Phuket. The incident occurred at about 10:30 a.m. on 1 Sep 2026.

The deceased was identified as Theeraphat Paensong, 19, residing at 5/6 Moo 1, Thepkrasattri Subdistrict, Thalang District, Phuket. He worked as a food delivery rider. His family was notified of his death.

Investigation and review of nearby CCTV footage revealed that before the incident, Theeraphat was riding a blue Honda Wave 110 motorcycle, license plate 1 กม 6858 Phuket, along Chaofa Tawan Tok Road heading toward the Naka Shrine intersection in Wichit Subdistrict, Mueang Phuket District.

At the accident site, drainage pipe construction was underway with no covers on the drains. Theeraphat’s motorcycle fell into the ditch, causing the bike to flip multiple times. He was thrown onto the road, sustaining severe injuries. He was rushed to nearby Dibuk Hospital but later died due to his injuries.

Police are currently summoning the contractor responsible for installing the drainage pipes to investigate the facts. If negligence is confirmed—specifically failure to cover the drain causing the fatal fall—the contractor will be charged with negligent homicide according to legal procedures.
