A durian seller became angry when his wife did not take him to see a doctor, grabbing a durian peeling knife and stabbing her repeatedly until she died. He claimed he was allergic to fermented fish and had difficulty breathing. After a heated argument, rescuers revealed she had recently donated a coffin and never expected to use it herself.
Officials from the Ban Bueng Moral Rescue Association were alerted by police at Ban Bueng station about a woman critically injured by a stabbing near an old Nong Prue market durian stall beside Route 344, Ban Bueng-Klaeng Subdistrict, Ban Bueng District, Chonburi Province. Upon arrival, they found 37-year-old Ms. Boonrat Siangwangwong unconscious, severely bleeding, held in the lap of her husband's younger sister. Rescuers performed CPR and emergency first aid before rushing her to the hospital, where she later died.
The suspect, 39-year-old Isara Sukree, the deceased’s husband and durian seller, was restrained by bystanders after the incident. Isara said he and his wife had bought durians from Chanthaburi Province to sell at the roadside stall. On the way, they stopped for food and ordered papaya salad. He informed his wife he was allergic to raw fermented fish, but later found fermented fish in the salad. Soon after, he developed symptoms including rash, swollen lips, and breathing difficulty. He took allergy medicine, but symptoms persisted. He asked his wife to take him to a doctor, but she wanted to finish unloading durians first, sparking an argument. He decided to drive to the doctor himself.
During this time, he heard his wife sarcastically say that if she knew he was so allergic to fermented fish, she would have asked the vendor to add more. She also said, “If you want to go, then go and don’t come back.” Feeling angry and hurt, thinking she didn’t care about his condition, he grabbed the durian peeling knife and stabbed her multiple times, seriously injuring her. The incident happened in the evening of 1 September.
Ms. Supattra, 37, the suspect’s younger sister, said before the incident her brother showed allergy symptoms after eating papaya salad and wanted to go to hospital for an allergy injection. However, she and her sister-in-law were still unloading durians and asked him to finish first before going to the hospital. Both parties then had a heated argument, after which he grabbed the durian peeling knife and attacked his wife. She tried to intervene and separate them but could not stop the stabbing. His wife was seriously wounded and later died.
This morning, reporters visited the durian stall and met Mrs. Pimphaka, the deceased’s elder sister from Buriram. She said she did not know her brother-in-law and had never met him. She said her sister had been dating him only three months. She learned from the news that the incident was over fermented fish. She said it was unthinkable to kill over not eating or being allergic to fermented fish, especially since her sister was a woman who could not physically fight a man. The husband stabbed her repeatedly until she died. She wants him to apologize to the family and for the police to fully prosecute him.
Ban Bueng police initially detained Isara for a detailed investigation, gathering evidence and interviewing witnesses. They will proceed with legal action according to the law.
Volunteer officer Alongkorn Payakburapha from the Payakburapha Volunteer Club said the deceased had previously requested to donate a coffin. Upon hearing the news, the club decided to use the coffin she donated for her own burial and to send her body back to her hometown in Buriram. Since the club’s founding, they had never encountered a case where a coffin donor used their own coffin. He expressed deep sadness and sorrow.
Police Lieutenant Natthapong Jaikwang, the duty officer at Ban Bueng Police Station, said the suspect was initially charged with intentional homicide. The suspect confessed the cause was emotional hurt because his wife knew about his allergy to fermented fish yet still made him eat it, causing a rash and breathing difficulty. She wanted to finish unloading durians before taking him to the doctor, which made him lose control and stab her to death. Police will take Isara to Chonburi Provincial Court for detention and oppose bail.
