Cyber police, armed with a court warrant, searched and arrested a man collecting illegal firearms in Samut Prakan. He had posted them on social media, claiming he simply liked the guns without intent to use them unlawfully.
On 2 Sep 2026 GMT+7, Pol. Lt. Gen. Surapol Prembutr, Commander of the Cyber Crime Division, Pol. Lt. Gen. Naradet Thiprak, Commander attached to the Royal Thai Police Office, and Pol. Maj. Gen. Thinkorn Rangmat, Deputy Commander of the Cyber Crime Division, ordered Pol. Maj. Gen. Sarayuth Junnawat, Commander of Cyber Crime Division 2, along with senior officers including Pol. Col. Chairat Warunno, Deputy Commander, Pol. Col. Tosak Panklinphut, Superintendent of Division 4, and others to lead an operation.
They executed search warrant No. 519/2569 from the Samut Prakan Provincial Court at a house in Moo 4, Thaiban Mai Subdistrict, Mueang District, Samut Prakan. They arrested Jakrit Wetkarn, 37, the homeowner, and seized evidence including one unregistered Remington 870 5-shot shotgun, two modified air rifles adapted for 5.5 mm metal pellets, two modified gas-powered rifles also using 5.5 mm metal pellets, five 12-gauge slug shells, 61 gas-powered metal pellet rounds, and nine firearm accessories.
Pol. Col. Tosak stated that following government policy, the Cyber Crime Division is intensifying efforts to combat all forms of online crime to protect citizens, especially offenses involving firearms, ammunition, and explosives, focusing on those possessing illegal weapons and ammunition.
The investigation team from Division 4, Cyber Crime Division 2, found a Facebook account named “Sawasdee M Na Krub” posting images showing firearms on social media. Further investigation identified the account owner as Jakrit. They also discovered Jakrit purchased ammunition from a secret group involved in illegal arms and ammunition sales. His residence was in Samut Prakan Province. After gathering evidence, authorities obtained a court warrant to search his home and arrested him with all seized items on 1 Sep 2026 GMT+7.
During preliminary questioning, Jakrit admitted owning all the firearms. He said he collected guns over several years out of personal interest and had no intention of using them unlawfully.
He was charged with possession of unregistered firearms and ammunition without permission from the registrar. He was taken into custody with the seized items and handed over to the Samut Prakan City Police for further legal proceedings.
