Ubon Ratchathani police endured a tough 60-kilometer car chase to apprehend a man smuggling 332 kilograms of ice (methamphetamine). He confessed to receiving 100,000 baht for the job, which was his second time doing so.
At 13:00 on 4 September 2026, in front of the Ubon Ratchathani Provincial Police Headquarters, Lieutenant Colonel Korakot Prasertwong, Deputy Governor of Ubon Ratchathani, along with Pol. Col. Songsak Sributta and Pol. Col. Chaikrit Chotiwan, Deputy Commanders of Ubon Ratchathani Provincial Police, held a press conference announcing the arrest of 28-year-old Nimit Sak from Yasothon province. Seized items included seven sacks of ice weighing a total of 332 kilograms, one mobile phone, and a gray Toyota Vios registered in Ubon Ratchathani. The arrest took place at a public road number 3025, west of Ban Don Do, Village No. 10, Hua Na subdistrict, Khemarat district, Ubon Ratchathani, at 21:00 on 3 September.
The arrest followed a tip-off to the Ubon Ratchathani Provincial Police investigation unit about cross-border drug smuggling from a neighboring country near Sam Phan Bok on the Mekong River bank in Pho Sai district, Ubon Ratchathani. The drugs were intended for distribution to networks in central Thailand. The police commander was informed, and an investigation team led by Deputy Superintendent Bawornsak Khamrungsi and Superintendent Kraisorn Kamphapat, along with a narcotics intelligence unit, was deployed to monitor routes suspected for drug transport.
Officers located a vehicle matching the tip-off and requested to search it, but the driver accelerated and fled. Police pursued the car over a distance exceeding 60 kilometers before successfully intercepting it in Hua Na subdistrict, Khemarat district, along with the seized ice.
Initial interrogation revealed that Nimit Sak admitted to accepting 100,000 baht from a drug network to transport the ice to central Thailand. He stated this was his second time performing such a job, having previously delivered ice to Saraburi province successfully. The suspect and evidence were transferred to Muang Thao Police Station, Khemarat district, Ubon Ratchathani, to proceed with legal action.
