The Police Chief of Division 5 confirmed clear evidence that Mr. Nattawut pushed Mr. Somchai off his bicycle, despite Mr. Nattawut denying all allegations and posting bail. He assured that authorities are conducting the case thoroughly and ensuring fairness for all parties involved.
Regarding the case where Mr. Somchai Srisutthiyakorn, former Election Commission member, filed a complaint against Mr. Nattawut Wongniam, a former lawyer, for assault causing him to fall off his bicycle and sustain injuries. The incident happened in front of Thonglor Police Station around 1 p.m. on 4 Sep 2026. Reporters were able to record the incident on video.
Meanwhile, Mr. Nattawut, the accused, denied assaulting or ambushing Mr. Somchai as alleged. He claimed the incident resulted from being startled when the bicycle handlebar touched his abdomen, causing Mr. Somchai to lose balance and fall by himself.
In the latest update at 1:30 p.m. on 5 Sep 2026, Police Major General Witawat Chinkham, Chief of Division 5, revealed that Mr. Somchai filed complaints with Thonglor Police Station accusing Mr. Nattawut of assault, public insult, and property damage.
Upon questioning, Mr. Nattawut denied all accusations and requested bail from the investigator, offering 45,000 baht in cash. The investigator approved bail at the police level.
Regarding the case, Mr. Somchai was sent for a medical examination to assess his injuries. The investigator is compiling evidence, interviewing witnesses, reviewing video footage from reporters present at the scene, and awaiting medical results to determine the extent of injuries for the assault charge.
Although Mr. Nattawut’s denial is his right, the incident has clear evidence. It is suspected that the perpetrator had been waiting to confront the other party beforehand.
Authorities are conducting a detailed and careful investigation to ensure fairness to both sides. The case is expected to conclude soon, pending only the medical examination certificate.
