Chiang Mai City Police are advancing the proactive 'Safe Chiang Mai' campaign, intensifying inspections of entertainment venues with a strong focus on controlling drugs, firearms, and preventing children and youth from entering. Random testing of 84 individuals found no one with drugs in their system.
At midnight on 9 Sep 2026, Chiang Mai City Police, led by Police Colonel Prachya Thisla, Superintendent of Chiang Mai City Police Station, and Police Lieutenant Colonel Tattawi Danpitaktakun, Deputy Superintendent of the Investigation Division, along with patrol and narcotics suppression teams, conducted inspections and random checks of entertainment venues within their jurisdiction.
They instructed business operators to comply with the law and avoid exploiting customers, emphasizing strict controls on drugs, firearms, and youth access. Additionally, random drug tests were conducted on 84 tourists and venue staff in the area, with no positive drug results. This aims to prevent and curb the spread of drugs in entertainment venues and tourist areas.
This operation is part of Chiang Mai provincial police's proactive measures following government policy to combat drug offenses, crack down on illegal firearms possession and use, and rigorously and continuously enforce the law to prevent crime, ensure safety of life and property, and maintain public order.
The initiative aims to build confidence among residents and tourists, reinforcing the 'Safe Chiang Mai' campaign, while promoting Chiang Mai as a safe, livable, and sustainably attractive tourist destination.
