Pol. Lt. Gen. Siam Boonsom, Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police Bureau, revealed that the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation will be responsible for considering the 'Uthenthawai-Pathumwan' issue. He affirmed that police have continuously conducted prevention, suppression, and investigations to track down perpetrators.
On 9 Sep 2026 GMT+7, Pol. Lt. Gen. Siam Boonsom, Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police Bureau, spoke about the clashes between students of two prominent institutions. He requested that the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation take charge of handling matters related to both institutions. Nonetheless, police have consistently implemented prevention, suppression, and investigations whenever clashes occurred. He instructed Pol. Maj. Gen. Charin Gophattana, Deputy Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police Bureau, Pol. Maj. Gen. Pallop Aermla, Deputy Commissioner, and Pol. Maj. Gen. Chotiwat Luangwilai, Commander of the Metropolitan Police Investigation Division, to continue overseeing the area.
Pol. Maj. Gen. Chaikrit Pho-a, Commander of Metropolitan Police Division 6, stated that he and officers from Pathumwan Police Station and the Division 6 investigation team met with faculty members from both conflicting institutions to address the issue. Measures included surrounding and searching for firearms or knives to prevent incidents, as well as deploying police to secure each institution’s anniversary celebrations. Police have cooperated well, helping to prevent incidents to some extent, though occasional clashes still occur. He welcomed the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation’s involvement to jointly resolve the issue and prevent violence between institutions that could endanger nearby residents through stray injuries or fatalities.
Reports indicate that during this transitional security period, the Metropolitan Police Bureau will intensify safety measures in the area. Police have consistently collaborated closely with faculty from both institutions and received strong cooperation from alumni and senior students in monitoring and prevention efforts. Today, relevant agencies and police officials attended a meeting together, led by Pol. Lt. Gen. Siam Boonsom, Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police Bureau; Pol. Maj. Gen. Charin Gophattana, Deputy Commissioner (Division 6); Pol. Maj. Gen. Pallop Aermla, Deputy Commissioner (Divisions 1-2); Pol. Maj. Gen.
