Phetchaburi erupted in violence when a new boyfriend opened fire on his girlfriend’s ex, hitting him five times in the head and once in the body, leaving him dead outside a home. The shooter later surrendered to police at Khao Yoi Police Station, citing jealousy as the motive, saying the former couple had broken up but the relationship was not truly over.
At 17:34 on 9 Sep 2026, Police Lieutenant Sombat Yotsisak, an investigator at Khao Yoi Police Station in Phetchaburi, received a report of a shooting death inside an alley near the entrance to Wat Yang, Village No. 3, Khao Yoi Subdistrict, Khao Yoi District. He notified Police Colonel Niyom Suaywong, chief of Khao Yoi Police Station, who sent officers to the scene along with a duty doctor from Khao Yoi Hospital and volunteers from the Sawang Sanphet Foundation to investigate.
In front of a house in Village No. 3, a red Honda Dream 125 motorcycle with license plate Kabot 932 Phetchaburi was found overturned on the roadside. Nearby lay the body of Mr. Theeraphat Dutsadeewimon, 32, a resident of Khao Yoi Subdistrict, Khao Yoi District, Phetchaburi, dead at the scene.
Preliminary investigation found the victim had been shot six times with a 9mm handgun: five bullets struck his head and one hit his body, causing immediate death.
After the incident, authorities identified the shooter as Mr. Thawatchai Srisuwan, 30, from Sa Phang Subdistrict, Khao Yoi District, Phetchaburi. He surrendered to police and was taken into custody. He also led officers to the location where he discarded the firearm along the irrigation canal about 1 kilometer from the crime scene for evidence collection.
Initial questioning revealed that Mr. Thawatchai was the new boyfriend of a woman who was the victim’s wife. Before the incident, the woman had promised to end her relationship with the victim and start a new one with Thawatchai. However, upon learning that she was still involved with the victim, Thawatchai became jealous and upset, leading him to shoot and kill the victim.
Meanwhile, nearby CCTV footage clearly captured the incident and the shooter firing the weapon at the victim. Police will use the footage along with forensic evidence and other witnesses to support their investigation and proceed with legal action against the perpetrator.
Authorities are currently gathering evidence and interviewing those involved to carry out legal procedures accordingly.
