In Nakhon Phanom, police arrested a drug-addicted stepson who killed a former police officer in a rubber plantation. He claimed he was angry after being kicked out of the house for smoking marijuana and planned to surrender today because he was hungry.,
Update on the case of Sergeant Major Wi-chian Phraisuwan, or Sergeant Xian, 79, a former police officer from Mueang Nakhon Phanom Police Station, who was attacked with a hard object causing a roughly 3-inch long head wound and died on the staircase to the second floor inside his house in At Samat Subdistrict, Mueang District, Nakhon Phanom Province. His wife, Mrs. Nu Kanmun, 65, bedridden, was present and is believed to have witnessed the incident but was unable to assist. The suspect is Mr. Boonsong Thaeblae, or Song, 54, the stepson who lived on the second floor but disappeared from the house. Police suspect he may be hiding in a nearby rubber plantation. The investigation team, along with local authorities, tightened the perimeter to pressure the suspect to surrender. The incident occurred on 11 September.
At approximately 07:30 on 12 September 2026, Mr. Preecha Phueakphan, 56, village headman of Na Hua Bo, received a report from villagers that Mr. Song was hiding in a hut in the middle of a rubber plantation about 4 kilometers from the crime scene. He informed police and local officials, who went to the hut and found Mr. Song lying there. They immediately took him into custody. Mr. Song was too weak to flee, having fasted for a day after the incident. He was taken for a reenactment of the crime and a urine drug test, which showed a purple color indicating drug use.
In an initial interrogation, Mr. Song said that in the early morning of 11 September, while he was smoking marijuana on the second floor, Sergeant Xian smelled it and came upstairs to scold him, ordering no drug use in the house and threatening to evict him if he did not comply. This led to an argument. While the stepfather was sitting with his back turned, muttering on the staircase, hearing the phrase “get out of the house” angered Mr. Song. He grabbed a roughly 2-meter-long wooden stick leaning against the wall and struck the left side of the ear once and the right side once. The stepfather fell face-first, rolling down the stairs and lying curled up at the bottom. Mr. Song did not realize he had died but, fearing legal consequences, jumped out the window and hid in the rubber plantation. He intended to surrender today but was found by passersby who alerted authorities. He admitted, “I am very hungry now.”
Mr. Phumin Phraisuwan, 54, the youngest son of Sergeant Xian and one of those who searched for Mr. Song all night, revealed that Mr. Song’s claim he acted in self-defense fearing his father would shoot him is false, as his father had no firearms. Over ten years ago, his father owned a shotgun but Mr. Song stole it to buy methamphetamine. The father complained because he wanted Mr. Song to change his ways, as he had been addicted to drugs all his life. Also, as a former police officer, he disliked anyone using drugs in the house.
After the initial interrogation, authorities charged Mr. Song with "intentional murder" and "using Category 1 narcotics (methamphetamine)." He was detained pending case file preparation for prosecution in court the following day.
