Police have added two charges against the 'MFU Medical Lecturer' in the case involving a collision with three students, killing two and severely injuring one. A mediation meeting is set for 15 Sep 2026 at Ban Du Police Station, Chiang Rai Province.
An update on the vehicle collision involving a car and a motorcycle carrying three Mae Fah Luang University (MFU) students at the Nang Lae intersection in Chiang Rai on 25 Aug 2026, which caused two student deaths and one serious injury. Recently, investigators summoned the medical lecturer who was driving the car to hear additional charges. The lecturer admitted all accusations. A compensation negotiation with the victims' families is scheduled for 15 Sep.
On 13 Sep 2026 at Ban Du Police Station, Chiang Rai, Police Lieutenant Colonel Phanuwat Atsungnoen, the lead investigator, summoned Dr. Kamol Ratchakom, the MFU medical lecturer who was driving the car during the accident, to be informed of additional charges related to the crash involving three MFU students at the Nang Lae intersection.
The additional charges presented today are: 1. Driving in a manner that clearly disregards the safety of others' lives or bodies, and 2. Driving without obeying traffic signals.
Dr. Kamol acknowledged the charges and admitted guilt to all additional accusations. After being informed, he declined to comment or provide detailed information about the case to the media, requesting that the legal process proceed according to the law.
With these new charges, the medical lecturer now faces a total of five charges. The previous three charges were: 1. Negligent conduct causing death, 2. Negligent conduct causing serious injury, and 3. Reckless or dangerous driving potentially causing harm to persons or property.
Regarding compensation, investigators have scheduled a mediation meeting between the offender and the families of the deceased and injured at Ban Du Police Station on 15 Sep 2026 at 13:00. The victims' families will officially attend this negotiation session.
