In Kanchanaburi, police are racing to capture the killer who slit the throat of a 50-year-old woman found dead in a rental room inside a local market. A butcher knife was found beside her. A roommate described the moment she confronted the suspect. Police quickly arrived on the scene and have now arrested the suspect, who claimed jealousy as the motive for the crime.
At 07:00 on 18 Sep 2026, Police Lieutenant Therasak Kaewmanee, deputy investigation officer at Mueang Kanchanaburi Police Station, received a report of a woman attacked and killed in a rental room within the Chukdon Market community in Kanchanaburi Municipality. Upon notification, officers coordinated with volunteers from Pitak Kanchan Foundation, doctors from Phaholpolpayuhasena Hospital, and forensic police from Kanchanaburi Provincial Police to investigate the scene.
The scene was a two-story house, half concrete and half wood. The crime scene was the bedroom on the second floor, where the victim’s body was found lying on her side between mattress creases. She had severe knife wounds on her wrists, arms, and neck and was lying in a pool of blood. She was later identified as Ms. Jutharat Akaraporn, or Mod, aged 50. Near her body, a butcher knife was found on the mattress, believed to be the weapon used in the attack.
Mr. Nan, a roommate of the victim, said the suspect is likely Mr. Tor, 47, who was once Mod’s boyfriend but they had broken up some time ago. However, they occasionally met. The previous night, Mr. Tor arrived by motorcycle at the rental home and stayed on the second floor with Mod, while Nan slept downstairs. Around 06:30 the next morning, Nan saw Mr. Tor come down from the second floor intending to leave. Mr. Tor told him, “Please call the police. I have killed Mod.” After saying this, Mr. Tor left for Chukdon Market as if nothing had happened. Shocked, Nan ran to report to police at the market’s public service point, then returned with officers to find Mod dead in the second-floor bedroom.
Following the incident, Major General Patsavee Rueangphu, Commander of Kanchanaburi Provincial Police, along with Colonel Jompol Rujiradamrongchai, Deputy Commander, led investigation teams from Mueang Kanchanaburi and Kanchanaburi Provincial Police to the crime scene. They spread out to search for Mr. Tor, who was believed to be hiding nearby. Police initially suspected jealousy or personal conflict as the motive but awaited the suspect’s arrest for further questioning to clarify the cause.
Meanwhile, Mod’s parents came to view their daughter’s body. Her father said Mod had left home about 17 to 18 years ago and had not contacted the family for a long time. They were unaware she lived in this house with friends and only learned about the death from neighbors who knew their daughter. He did not know Mr. Tor or the motive behind the killing.
Later, police arrested the suspect, identified as Mr. Israkorn Kanhasela, or Tor, 47, while he was fleeing a short distance from the crime scene. He was brought in for questioning at Mueang Kanchanaburi Police Station, where he was interviewed for about 30 minutes.
Mr. Tor confessed to killing Ms. Mod, citing jealousy because after their breakup, she had a new man pursuing her. He said he tried to reconcile but was rejected, which led to his anger and the attack. However, authorities remain cautious and plan to investigate further to verify the true motive behind the crime.
After questioning, police took Mr. Tor to reenact the crime at the rental room in the Chukdon Market community, with dozens of local residents watching. During the reenactment, officers collected a DNA sample from inside his mouth and took the shirt he wore during the attack to test for blood stains, which will aid the ongoing investigation.
Police Colonel Ekachairat Buakhom, Superintendent of Mueang Kanchanaburi Police Station, said Mr. Tor confessed and claimed jealousy was the reason he attacked Ms. Mod. He used a knife to slash her throat and stab her more than 10 times before fleeing. Police tracked and arrested him as described.
The rental house where the crime occurred had previously been searched by Mueang Kanchanaburi police, who arrested individuals involved in drug offenses there. Police acknowledged the house was a known gathering place for people linked to drugs. They have conducted several raids and plan to increase monitoring and urge residents to report any drug-related activities immediately for prompt police action.
Meanwhile, reporters learned that Mr. Tor has a criminal record including drug offenses, assault, and attempted murder. He had recently been released from prison before committing this latest crime.
