On 20 September 2026, violence occurred in the southern border provinces when, at approximately 20:30 on 19 September 2026, the Bannang Sata Police Radio Center in Yala Province received a report from the Village Security Volunteer unit that unknown assailants armed with firearms had ambushed and killed a local administrative officer near Village No. 2, Kue Long, Taling Chan Subdistrict, Bannang Sata District, Yala Province.
After receiving the report, Police Colonel Atthaphon Kulwongmanaso, chief of Bannang Sata Police Station, along with police, military, local administrative officers, and rescue personnel from the Hilal Ahmar Foundation Bannang Sata Operations Center promptly arrived to inspect the scene. They ordered the area to be secured for safety and awaited related agencies to carefully collect evidence.
At the scene, a motorcycle was found overturned by the roadside. Nearby lay the body of Hamdi Jesoha, 42, assistant village headman of Village No. 11, Taling Chan Subdistrict, deceased beside the motorcycle. Preliminary examination revealed multiple shotgun wounds to his head and torso.
Initial investigations revealed that before the incident, Hamdi rode a motorcycle from Village No. 11, Ye Lapan, Taling Chan Subdistrict, heading to visit his wife at Village No. 2, Kue Long, Taling Chan. Nearing his destination, unknown assailants concealed in nearby brush used the cover of darkness to ambush him with a shotgun, causing him to lose control and fall. He was shot multiple times and died instantly. The attackers then swiftly fled, using their knowledge of the terrain.
Security forces have rapidly deployed to encircle the area, examining CCTV footage, collecting forensic evidence, and interviewing witnesses to swiftly track down and bring the perpetrators to justice.
