Chiang Mai – MP Ploy of the People's Party, representing Chiang Mai's first district, went to file a police report at Chang Phueak Police Station after two Facebook pages posted messages connecting her with Councilor Kong in relation to the recent raid on a gambling den in central Chiang Mai. She stressed she does not personally know Councilor Kong nor has he ever been part of her staff. She also called on relevant agencies to urgently investigate and extend the case to its origins.
The case involves the Deputy Minister of Interior leading a special task force from the Department of Provincial Administration to raid two gambling dens in central Chiang Mai on 18 September 2026. Authorities arrested over 100 organizers and gamblers and seized cash and chips totaling more than 1.57 million baht. Subsequently, the police chief of Chang Phueak Police Station was transferred to the Chiang Mai Provincial Police Headquarters for investigation.
During the arrests, there were allegations that a municipal council member in Chiang Mai had provided security guards for the gambling dens.
Update: At 2:00 p.m. on 20 Sep 2026 at Chang Phueak Police Station in Mueang District, Chiang Mai, Ms. Petchratan Maichomphu, 38, MP for Chiang Mai's first district from the People's Party, met investigators to file a police report after two Facebook pages posted similar claims. The posts alleged phrases like "Councilor cleared the gambling den" or "Councilor Kong of the municipality has been a team member and worked with MP Ploy from the People's Party all along."
Ms. Petchratan affirmed that these statements are untrue and that she has no involvement or personal acquaintance with the individual in question, prompting her to file the report as evidence.
Ms. Petchratan explained that she filed the report because a Facebook page claimed she was close to Councilor Kong, who is involved in the recent gambling den raid, and alleged that Councilor Kong was part of her team, which is false. She wanted to clear her name.
She added that the more important issue is investigating the raids at the two gambling dens located in the jurisdictions of Chang Phueak and Mueang Chiang Mai Police Stations. She viewed the operation as swift and beneficial but expressed concern over the police chief of Chang Phueak being transferred while no similar action was taken in Mueang Chiang Mai.
She noted this might align with the Royal Thai Police regulations but insisted that detailed explanations and the relevant criteria should be clearly communicated.
Regarding her relationship with Councilor Kong, Ms. Petchratan confirmed that they only know each other in public contexts and are not personally acquainted. Her official work with municipalities or agencies is conducted through formal letters addressing public issues, with no phone calls or informal requests involved.
Ms. Petchratan also urged relevant agencies to investigate and trace the root causes of the gambling den cases, expressing concern that the Chiang Mai raids might be forgotten. She referenced a similar raid on a nightclub in Huai Khwang, Bangkok, by the same task force three weeks prior, noting a lack of visible progress there.
Moving forward, Ms. Petchratan said she would bring the matter to the Parliamentary Legal Committee, chaired by Rangsiman Rome, to ensure proper investigation of the related issues.
She reiterated that claims by one Facebook page labeling her a "close associate" implying personal acquaintance are inaccurate. They have only met at public events, and she only knows the person as Councilor Kong.
Regarding another page claiming Councilor Kong was part of her team, she denied this and pointed out that team member lists, especially for MP assistants, are publicly accessible on the parliamentary website.
Initially, this filing serves as official evidence. Ms. Petchratan warned that if further false claims or exaggerated statements emerge, she will pursue full legal action.
