Nong Khai Customs Arrest Truck Driver for Smuggling 600,000 Methamphetamine Pills, Confesses to 20,000 Baht Fee

Nong Khai Customs, together with security agencies, arrested a man from Udon Thani hired to transport 600,000 methamphetamine pills hidden in a tractor-trailer truck. He confessed to receiving 20,000 baht as payment.

They inspected an empty tractor-trailer truck arriving at the inbound cargo inspection station of Nong Khai Border Checkpoint and found three suspicious bags hidden in the tarp storage area at the tractor head. The truck was then X-rayed, revealing a fourth bag concealed in the tarp storage at the trailer. Upon inspecting all four bags, officers found suspicious items resembling drugs. Nong Khai forensic officers tested the substance, confirming it as a type 1 narcotic (methamphetamine). The suspect, Mr. Sayan (surname withheld), 48, from Na Kha Subdistrict, Mueang District, Udon Thani Province, was arrested with 600,000 methamphetamine pills seized.


Earlier on the morning of 20 Sep 2026, Nong Khai customs officers at the inbound truck inspection lane called for a check on the tractor-trailer driven by Mr. Sayan (surname withheld). The truck was empty but four suspicious bags were found covered by tarps on the roof and five bags total: one at the back of the tractor head and three at the rear of the trailer.


Upon opening the bags, officers found a large quantity of methamphetamine, totaling 600,000 pills. The suspect was taken into custody for interrogation and further investigation. He was then handed over with the evidence to the Nong Khai City Police for prosecution under the law.
